Currently finishing the metal Fab on 73
As I go back with the engine I want to consider at least fuel injection
And possibly twin turbo charger. I have had several Ford eco boost and would like to apply this to the bronco engine
Anyone done this or know of a shop that does

Get in touch with EFIGuy (on this site) for your fuel injection needs.

You will never get the same performance/economy out of a Windsor like they are getting from the newer direct injected engines, they just will not support that kind of boosting etc. that the new engines achieve due to the direct injection. You can make lots of power with forced induction but the economy will suffer greatly if that is your goal. What is your end goal?

Fuel injection to just upgrade the bronco
Turbo is more of a question. Just curious what it would do on the performance

Ecoboost is direct injection. This allows insane cylinder pressures on low octane fuels. Pretty much a diesel engine in terms of cylinder pressures but run on gasoline and light with a spark plug. This isn't just a turbo slapped on a regular engine. To get an ecoboost to run right there are millions invested. Not something that you get with a driveway add on.

You are wanting to add this to the existing engine? That is how I read your question anyway. Adding fuel injection is easy. It is just electronically metering fuel in instead of sucking it through holes. Use factory parts or aftermarket. But that regular fuel delivery. There is no way to add direct injection. A direct inject engine has very special piston designs to control the fuel as it is added. Fuel injection is typically done at under 100 PSI, direct injection is done at closer to 1,000 PSI.

Any particular reason you want twin turbos?

How you intend to use the truck has a big influence on the engine setup.

Do you care about economy, drive-ability, or tons of power at all costs?

Do you tow, rock crawl, cruise, drag race?

I’m a horsepower junkie and would love to see a twin turboed bronco but unless you know what you are doing you will more than likely not be happy. There is lots of fab work as no one makes a kit for these things so everything is custom (oil feed, oil return, exhaust manifolds, intake piping, intercooler piping, down pipes, mounts, etc). On top of that there is sizing the turbo properly and making sure your engine and drivetrain are up to the task. A turbo will easily add 80-150hp and the same torque, and with heavy tires you are going to stress the axles, driveshafts, clutch/transmission, etc. Then there is the heat factor. Turbos produce a ton of heat and you need a serious cooling system to keep up with it. Of course tuning is one of the single most important things to keep your engine running.

Like most here I say make your bigger displacement with a bigger engine.
Put a 351W or 351W based stroker in it, that is already well figured out so lots of help is here, it fits in the rather tight engine compartment easier, less trouble with heat......

The OP stated he has had several ecoboosts. I'm guessing he like the torque feel they provide with such a small engine and thinks that adding a couple of turbos to his existing engine will make it feel the same.

It won't.

As I was pointing out above, completely different engine technology. Most of that being the direct inject, which doesn't retrofit to old engines.

But if you want big torque with an old school engine, go big. Start with a 351W and add a stroker kit and a set of good flowing heads. No turbos needed.

Thanks, that is the answer I was looking for, I dont want to re invent the wheel, just wondered if the technology would transfer over, sounds like it will not without a lot of time and cost, But I will go with fuel injection to get away from stock carb
As for use, driver and occasional off road

I think your original question was looking for recommendations. For a driver or any build I would never use a carburetor today. Once you have EFI you ask yourself "why did I wait to so long???"

Turbo for more power? Sure you can it will take time, money and skills. It will not be EcoBoost smooth but you can get near the same oomph. Simple and cheap? No.

I would recommend a bolt on blower if you want torque, ease of install and maintenance. If you run the Mustang front dress it will bolt on. Fuel system and tuning work still required but it all fits and makes proven power.

Or...... you could spend too much time thinking about the possibilities and go completely off the rails......

He also stated he wouldn't mind finding someone that was doing that. Which I'm sure could be found among the Mustang performance companies. I bet there are literally a ton of single and dual turbo installs on the same family of engines. Some specifically sized things might not cross directly over toe an EB chassis install, but much of it would.

And then there's JB Fab....;D
Whatcha' got goin' on there sir?

Updates when we get closer to actually driving it... but planning on your roundup next year!

The last turbo I retrofitted was from a cat diesel and I put it on an old Honda 3-wheeler. Wastegate delete as well. Ran on propane. I'll just say there was a unrecoverable failure of the powertrain that occurred very quickly and before it could be utilized and hurt anybody.

But I didn't scatter it across the ground. The bearing tolerances just got really large really fast.

Awesome! Give it a few more minutes they will be on the ground they are easier to inspect that way.
