Fuel Tank Install Gasket and Rubber Options

Couple questions on installation of the Gas tank. It's a new CJP tank and sending unit. I have the tank in place for testing fitting and...
1. The Sending Unit shifts in place and I can now loosen the ring by hand. I used some grease on the gasket. I'm not sure If the gasket just got out of alignment, or I should install the same gaset dry or add gasket maker type supplement.

2. Also, how do you address metal on metal contact points (frame supports and metal strap? I found some cheap thin rubber materia I'm planning on using some cheap rubber material; but wasn't sure if the tank needs to be tight to support weight or some play for shifting/expansion. The 2nd pic is what I suspect the original strap and "canvas" like liner. Should I just re-use it?

Thx in advance!

If the liner seems reusable then go ahead and use it. Otherwise your idea of the rubber stuff seems very workable for both the strap and the brackets.

I’m thinking that loose lock ring is a bad sign though. Should be so tight that you need to steak it on with a hammer and screwdriver or special tool.
Did it come with the flat square profile o-ring, or the round profile O-ring?
If you still have the old one, have you tried it yet?

A few months ago I bought a Toms Bronco replacement rear tank. and a couple of extra toms O-ring Gaskits for the sending unit. I was lucky I bought the extra O-rings. the square cut ring that came with the Tank was not tall enougt to seal the sending unit sjhort about 1/16 of an inch. swapped in the extra round o-rings I bought and had no issues when installed.

I re-seated the sending unit today with the same square "o" ring (like I thought I did yesterday) and it seems much more secure. I got the ring to twist more in the setting. I'll let that sit overnight and see if anything changes. CJP is nice enough to check with the vendor if I'm doing something wrong and/or if I need a new O ring.
