Fuel tank options

Have a stock fuel tank and am converting to EFI so I bought the TBP 23 gallon kit. Worried a bit about how far this thing hangs down. But here's my question, the tabs on top - are they supposed to butt up against the bottom side of the bed? If so I've got an issue with that. Seems like an opportunity for a rattle. The stock brackets are to be removed according to the instructions.

Yes, right up against the bed. At least you know its not hanging down any further than it has too! I've got so many rattles from everywhere else, I never noticed anything but its probably clamped down too tight for that. After the restoration, I might put some rubber in-between for some peace of mind. The other companies make all kinds of different brackets for their 23gal. to mount to but I too went with the TBP because it was the cheapest. It's been working well for me for years.

As stated above ^^^ the tank must bottom out against the bottom of the bed floor. If the strap is tight across the bottom of the tank there should be no rattling.

All the old factory tank brackets must be removed and you should test fit the tank to make sure its "feet" make contact with the bed. If you have a body lift you will have to add extensions to the tank feet. A piece of rubber glued to the feet can help with concerns about noise. You can even use a dense plastic material as well.

The stock arrangement doesnt rattle, but the stock upper brackets help I guess with their shape. If your're worried about it glue some pieces of inner tube to the top of the spacers on the new tank and you should be good to go. Once the strap is snugged up its not going anywhere.

Ford specifically advises against mounting anything to the frame AND body; transmission of chassis noise is one reason. But if the body shifts on its mounts, the tank could be damaged, spilling fuel. If you do this, I'd change the body mounts to polyurethane first, and make sure all the hardware is tight.

Which is another good reason to add additional insulators to the "feet" (standoffs) on top of the tank.
I used strips of that fiber reinforced rubber stuff that they use to make muffler hangers out of. Worked fantastic. But rubber, or polyurethane of just about any kind would work. Recommend thicknesses of 1/4" or more. With 1/2" being really nice.
