Gas gauge and 24 gal BC tank

I have BC broncos 24 gal tank and am not getting very accurate readings at the gas gauge. It will read full when the tank is full but then goes down to empty when I have at least half a tank or more. Can I make any adjustments to get a better reading or do I just live with it?

Thanks

More than likely the sending unit needs to be adjusted. Most of the aftermarket tanks use a universal sending unit that needs to be adjusted the float can be moved up or down the rail and the float arm can be bent to fine tune. Sounds like your float is set to high. Pull the tank and lower it I usually set the sending unit on the edge of the tank and check the travel that will allow you to guess where it should be adjusted to when at half ,empty, and full. I also hook it up and make sure it reads correctly before installing. Then if its still off a little the gauge itself can be adjusted to really fine tune it there are 2 small holes in the back of the gauge with what looks like gear teeth sticking up you can take a small screwdriver and move these slightly to fine tune the guage.

just wondering if those with this gas gauge issue and the BC tank ever resolved it. i am hoping that Chuck will repy. I have the BC tank and I don't recall the instructions saying that you needed to do anything with the sending unit. i'm still trying to find my instructions to confirm. Unfortunately for me I already had my rails tack welded so it won't easy for me to drop the tank. i've not filled mine up yet but i will today. currently i have about 15 gals in there and my gauge is stuck on empty.

I've had the same problem since installing mine a few years ago. It's a pain trying to guess on the amount of fuel left, but I've been too lazy to drop the tank again.

This is sort of on the subject, but a highjack non the less. I just put in my BC tank. After installing it I turned on the key and the gage went to full (the tank was empty). I am not sure what this means prehaps a bad ground. I put the orange wire on the sending unit and then ran the ground to the frame. Is this the proper way to wire this? Thanks in advance.

Before you install your sending unit you need to bend the arm so that the float can move up and down. Your sending unit could be wedged against the side of the tank making it read full all the time. The way to test is to assemble the tank, hook up the wiring, and (before you install the tank in your truck) turn the tank upside down and then back over to see if the gauge reads correctly.

BTW, ever since I installed my BCB tank my gauge reads about 3/4 when full and about 1/4 below empty when empty.

Keep in mind that this web site is not the official (or even un-official) support forum for any vendor. Chuck is an active member, so he may very well see this post, but he's also in the middle of a massive move of his shop to TX and may not have time to browse the forums as frequently.

As with any vendor, if you need support an email of phone call directly to them is the best way.

another point of view---- I just installed this tank about 2 months ago , the sending unit was in the tank already & reads pretty much right on------problems with products are best handled with a phone call just as ordering products

I'm not bashing B.C. Broncos either. Chuck's been too helpful to me with my other problems. Like I stated, I've just been lazy to bother with it.

Mine was the gas guage, everything else checked out fine when I was troubleshooting it. The guage finally failed after doing exactly what you had described. Someone told be that they just had to re-solder a connection in side the guage and they had no problems.
