If the "L" is what some call a "flag" style push-on connector, chances are good it's for a backup light switch that would have been at the lower end of the column on manual tranny models.
That's all I can think of at the moment. But let us know the colors like Steve said, and we should know for sure.

That sounds right, because it is a manual and they look like little flags.

Ill see what colors they are.

As far as the stock horn location. Im trying to find where the wires would be under the hood so I can hook up a horn. Any ideas?

I just happen to know that! I was corrected just the other day, when I messed up an answer.
Your '74 "should" be using a horn relay over on the passenger side fender wall, but the wire to the horn would likely be under the windshield wiper reservoir there at the driver's side front corner. Should be a Blue w/yellow wire.

If you have a relay, the power comes from a Yellow wire with fusible link connected to the starter relay on the battery side. It grounds through it's case to the fender, and the wire through the horn button completes the circuit.

Hope that helps.

Interesting - I'd like to read that thread. Seabiscuit's diagrams show the '73-74 horn connected directly to the switch; no relay until '75. If that's wrong, I'd like to fix it in the diagrams.

It's wrong. '74 had the relay.

It's actually a 71. Does that make a difference? I want to know where to look for the wires.

That's been my experience Steve, but maybe that was another one of those running changes that get made now and then. And that we've all come to know and love.

I mentioned it in another thread recently, but the diagrams in Chilton's show '73 and '74 together, without a relay. The diagrams in Hayne's however, show '74 by itself, with a relay.

So there did seem to be some disagreement fairly far back. My Chilton's is the '66 to '77 Bronco-only version, printed in '78. The Hayne's is the '73 to '79 EB AND FS version, printed in '83.
If that makes a difference.

Yes and no. It means that you won't have a relay on the passenger fender and that the power goes into the column, through the button, then down to the horn directly.
Colors should be the same (Yellow in, Blue w/yellow out), and the location to look for the wire is still in the driver's front corner below the reservoir.
