I want togo with the GM style of distributor,I've read somewere that its taller and will interfear with the hoods cross support, does that mean the front side or the back side of the cross support? If anybody has used this setup any info would help.I have no body lift, and the engine is out.

I'd say a lot of those hei conversion are junk from the get go. the only ones that seem to be decent cost more than they are worth. Meaning that $50-100 setup is not the one that lasts. Just something to think about. I feel there are much better options than those hei conversions.

I have had better luck with the cheap HEI units sold on e-bay than the one sold by one of the vendors on this site. I have had one on my 67 Mustang for about 5 years now with no issues.

That being said I had one on my 76 Bronco and changed back to the Duraspark system! But I carry a spare HEI Dizzy in my Bronco Just in case?

I really think the stock Duraspark is just as hot or close to as hot of a spark as the HEI and on the Bronco the Duraspark is probably the route you should take , especially with a stock hood and no body lift! You can buy the Duraspark parts over the counter and just about as cheap as the HEI......just my 2cents

Here is a PIC

Hey thanks for the info from all,but for those of you using the gm hei do you have a body lift and if not does the dist. hit the hoods cross bracing if so is it centered of brace or frontside or backside of brace. The reason I ask my hood is all finished if that brace has got to go altogether then a different dist. must be found, also the hood has been modified and that brace has been cut out in the front,so I'am hoping if it did hit it was in the front side of the brace. As always thank for the good info.

What air cleaner are you going to be using? That's the other issue with the large cap HEI setup. It hits most of the aftermarket air filter housings. You'd need to go with the smaller diameter versions. Something in the 10" diameter range maybe? I'm sure you'll hear from more that have done the cut routine, so maybe they'll share their air cleaner experiences too.

I've had the DUI units on my broncos for 10 years with no problems. I'm very happy with em. I have 351w's in both and had to notch the front hood support before adding body lift. I would think it clears with a 302 but don't know. As far as an air cleaner I run the edelbrock elite triangle shaped to clear the dizzy and the hood on our 66. That's now with a 1" body lift.Another side note. Those little foam air cleaners like the pic above like to catch fire. I had one and a friend warned me about it. We pulled it off to look at it and there were a bunch of melt spots where it came close. That's when I spent the $$ on the elite version.
