This past weekend I replaced my old classic scoop hood with a new-to-me stock hood. I had the "new" hood laying around for a while, but seeing as how I was moving into a place without a garage I needed to finally install it. I put it on my truck and I thought it looked great. I even gave away my "old" hood.

Well, I'm on my way to work today, driving about 40 or so and about to merge onto the freeway, when the hood flies up and crashes against my windshield. I don't know how it happened, but the locking mechanism on the hood just broke off. Luckily, nobody was hurt and there was no damage other than to the hood.

I'll take pics later, but to make a long story short...anybody in San Diego have a spare stock hood?

Ouch, sorry to hear of the problem. From what you said you at least managed to not end up in an accident, so at least that went right.

When you say it failed, how? Welds, rust, or??

Pedro,

I am so sorry about the hood. I feel responsible for what happened. Let me know if you need anything. Did your wind shield get destroyed? I have my old one on the side of the house with one crack in it. It is yours for free if you need it.

Just let me know.

Matt

I may have an extra latch sitting around in my gargae as well if that is what broke. When I get in town tomorrow I will take a look.

I feel your pain! The same thing happened to me. Something must have bent or broken when I hit a deer (didn't fly up then). I parked it for a few months, when I took it into town to fill up on fuel it flew up and bent over the hard top. Fortunately for me Tom and the Bronco Ranch are in the same state, I just need to find the time to get down there and see what he has. Thankfully noone was hurt though.

No way you should feel responsible, Matt. It was a freak accident.

The pin on the hood broke. Again, I don't know how it happened, but for now, I just used a bungee cord to keep it strapped down.

Thanks for the offer, Matt, but the hood is toast. In bent in an "L" shape. I'll need to find a replacement.

It's funny; I just saw a thread where this happened to somebody else.

That sucks dude, I need to go put an extra safety catch on mine, maybe a little carabeener (sp?) setup so that it will catch at least long enough for me to get off the road. I dont want to see that happen to me.

Terry, I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Steve, thanks for the offer.

I think I'm gonna chain this one down. I'm also considering using that fat chick from Norbit as a hood ornament. No way the hood would pop up on me with that big ol' butt on my hood.
