What about a light weight frame(alum or fiberglass) that uses your bolt holes where you sides bolt in, that has fabric windows stretched over it but folds in half to relax fabric and take up less room for storage.

The steel panel itself shouldn't be too heavy and it's already shaped right. Plus, I don't want to have to use tools to put it all together.

How about taking the glass out of the sides and using thick clear plastic and snaps, you can roll up the plastic and store it in a tube be hind the seat

I don’t like snaps. They leave room for air to blow and stretch everything. And they rust up and don’t come loose without tearing something up.

Snaps, and get some of the soft top material built to use for sides/rear when needed would be my way to go, but just me.. still pondering it, cause never no time

Need to get that cage repainted boss.. :)

Gonna replace it. Will paint the new one before final install. All part of the hybrid top equation.

Updated pic. I just realized the last pic here didn't have the new flares on the front.

I'm back on this. Trying to find the pics of other guys that chopped their sides up.... Tomorrow could be a big day. I have clear vinyl for windows! Thinking I'll leave the lift gate permanent since it fits with the corners??

You need to check out Madgyver in HI. I don't know if it's on this site or not, but he did an amazing job with the same concept on one of his Broncos. If I didn't see it here, it was on FB.

I’m thinking this thing is so rotted, the only choice I have is to weld a bead all the way around where the top and the side panel meet. I’m going to cut a line just behind the rear edge of the window and weld a piece of tube in to join the inside and outside layers together.

Are you saying you won't put a roll bar or roll cage in?? yes, I plan on digging my stake pocket brackets out to use as extra structure.

I also ordered some "3m dual lock" mushroom top fastener tape (industrial type velcro) last night to try out with my window idea. I was about to go cut my side panels up here in a few minutes, but realized I need to test the fastener stuff with the clear vinyl first before I destroy a $250 panel. (new price-obviously it wouldn't include the character (rust) that my top and panels now include.)

yeah, just the 'uprights'.

Ur design would help w/"the wobbly windshield' problem.

How bout the "roll up all the way round" for window/wall?
Back to the fiat jolly idea.

What is the goal of this adventure?

The goal is to have a roof over my head that doesn't flap and pop in the wind but still have windows that attach quickly in the case of rain when i'm out and about. My kids also enjoy climbing in over the rear tires/quarters, but the bows for the soft top hinder that.

I was at ACE hardware this afternoon and found the dual lock fastener stuff like I've got on order. Bought some and tried it on the clear vinyl I've had since the "great deluge of OCBR 2018(?)" We bought several yards over it at a fabric shop and gorilla taped it to the roll cages which kept water out, but with the hard roof panel on, it allowed for plenty fresh air ventilation. Fun week!
