Diesel swaps are a lot of fun. The Cummins is by far the most documented swap and many have successful rigs they drive daily. With that said if there is a will there’s a way. I looked into many different diesels before starting my swap I’m doing now. I liked a couple different Mercedes engines but I had a hard time figuring out the rest of the drivetrain situation if I went that route. I ended up going with a fairly common motor that has been swapped into a lot of Toyota’s but quite a few broncos. I’m not afraid of fab work and and can make any parts that are needed. If you don’t have some sort of aftermarket adapter support for drivetrain components or the ability and imagination required to make them yourself then it may be a very tough road to get it running and driving reliably.
I don’t say that crush your spirits or to dissuade you in any way. I’m am constantly impressed with the solutions and creativity I see on this site daily. If you want a bronco with a 2.2 get after it and see what you come up with. Everyone on here I’m sure will be watching and will help any way they can. I know I would.
