I have a '75 bronco with a 302 (I think). The guy I bought it from told me it had 351 heads on it, but who knows. I am not sure it even has a '75 motor.%)

Anyway, the heads are shot and I was going to get an different set, but need to make sure of what I got and what I SHOULD get.

The numbers I have found on these heads are D2OE, 302, 69, & 2627. I think the D2OE number represents a '68-'74 head, (but I am guessing from Google search results)??? These heads also have the 13/16" spark plugs in them. Is this a good head to stick with? Should I get a different year of head?

Thanks.

D20E looks like a 302 head 71-74. The book says D2OE-BA. It doesn't show just a D2OE.

If you can fit a 1/2 bolt through the head bolt holes, then it is a 351 head. If it doesn't fit then you have 302 heads.

Can't help with too many other details, my books are instorage for another couple of months

My book says 302 head also 71-74. 351W heads would or should have 351 cast in to them and I dont show any D2 heads for 351W in my books all 70-74 351W heads should be D0OE castings 75-77 are D5TE and after 77 I believe all 302 and 351 heads are the same casting with no differance except for head bolt size.
As for being good heads the D2OE are ok they are supposed to have 58cc chambers according to one book but another book says they have 63cc chambers either way there not real performance pieces in stock form. But will work good enough on a rebuilt or slightly modified engine.

They do have a BA on them also, but not directly after the D2OE, (if it matters).
So, is it safe to assume these are 302 heads from a '71-'74???

Also, is it safe to say that a smaller cc chamber head has more compression than a lrger one? Ex: A 58cc head would have more compression than a 63cc head (on the same motor)?

Thanks for the help.

My blueprint reference says they are 57.7cc (58). It also shows (which I found odd) that the D2 heads were heads were not 'factory' install correct numbers for the 302 until '74, with the D0 version listed for 71-73. No matter..just a tidbit I found interesting that illustrates the futility of trying to decipher the year of production for a Ford engine using their casting part numbers. ;D . They are the small-chamber heads in any event.

yes, a small chamber will result in a higher compression then a larger chamber on the same engine. The piston is compressing the same intake charge into a smaller space.

Oreily's, Advanced and Autozone sell remanufactured heads for about $150. Is this a bad idea?

Also, how do I know if I have smog on mine or not?
Why does that matter on the heads?

Thanks again.

If your engine has a air pump on it and threaded holes that go into the exhuast ports then you would have smog heads.
As for the remanufactured heads they are usually fine thats about the going price for reman heads but you can also get what you pay for.
