Headlights dim when I touch transfer case shifter to tunnel

So this morning I bumped my transfer case shifter and when it touched the transmission tunnel the headlights dimmed. When I hold it against the tunnel the headligs dim but the ammeter gauge also stops bouncing and smooths out at zero.
I have a ground from the battery to the block and from the body to the block.

What kind of a grounding problem is this? Or do I have a hot wire touching the body somewhere?

Try adding a ground between the alternator case and a voltage regulator mounting screw.

Do they go to the same bolt on the block? Are ALL the ends clean & tight? Is the body end on clean metal, or on paint? Was the t-case fully painted before it was bolted up to the trans? Do you have anything electrical connected to the t-case? With the engine running, measure DC voltage between the body & shifter.
