A few weeks ago, I spoke with Geico's vehicle appraiser that works my area. He said, "I've looked at a few Broncos. One was $6K, another was $9K...."

There was no way in hell that I was going to let him look at my rig with those value anchors in mind. So I had an independent appraiser come out first. Just got the report back. The valuation wasn't as high as what I was thinking (and hoping for), but it was a lot higher than the $6-9K range that Geico's appraiser referenced.

Next step is for Geico to come out and look over the rig. I'll keep you posted! Anxious to get the repair work going!!!

Sorry to see what happened with your truck! Important thing is that you weren't hurt. It can be fixed so just remember that and go from there. Glad to see that you had the extinguisher on board because otherwise you would have no bronco at all today.

I am getting one to mount to my cage immediately, possibly one for both passenger and driver.

Good luck getting it back on the road. Sounds like you have a good supporting cast behind you! ;D

Thanks Broncoitis. I would definitely recommend 2 extinguishers. It took a 5 gal. bucket of water and 3 extinguishers to get the fire out.

Geico visited today

Geico's appraiser came by an hour ago. Friendly guy. Agreed with the valuation from the independent appraiser. Told me to fax him a repair estimate so Geico can cut me a check. Even told me the maximum repair cost to keep the rig from being totaled. And said that Geico might wave the deductible since it was a fire.

The big lesson here: get an independent appraisal, keep your receipts, and document all of the work that has been done to your rig. The appraiser told me if his boss wants to argue with him about the valuation, he will hand his boss all the paperwork and say, "here is the proof."

I feel a little bit closer to getting the rig back on the road. So exciting! I'll keep you all posted as things go forward.
