Heater Box Question

Hello all:

Finally getting around to restoring my heater box on my 71 Bronco. The metal case and cover are rusty. Is it just regular metal? Not chrome or plated etc. I was planning on submerging the pieces in white vinegar to break the scale off.

Thanks!
Ryan

You might have better luck with Evap-o-rust...
I use it for many of the small pieces, including the damper doors in the heater box. Then I paint them and glue on the new foam from the rebuilt kits that are sold. Good luck with the project!

If it’s like most, even just a quick sanding and a rust converting primer will do the job.
How bad is yours? Got pictures you can show us?

I sprung for the big 5 gallon bucket of evaporust when doing my heater box. I had used the smaller one with dipping basket so much for little things I decided to invest…. It worked great on everything and it’s safe for even the plastic/fiberglass parts and tends to remove any paint as well.

Now I just have to actually get it back in the Bronk…

It’s not as bad as the gentleman’s above. I may try the vinegar route as it worked pretty good in the past. If that doesn’t work then probably sanding.

That turned out amazing! Nice work! I definitely got to try that stuff.
