Do you guys screw down the heater inlet box on the passenger side inner fender?

It's attached with screws or rivets to the kick panel, but I'm not aware of any screws in the upper plenum and opening area. Which is why even from the factory they "puckered up" instead of sitting flat on the cowl.
I always hated that, and even though the good side of that is that moisture has a chance to dry, you have to keep the area clean when leaves and other debris collect and build up in the gap.

And some of the reproductions have an even larger gap.

Is that what you were asking?

Do you have that inner hose flange?
There is the opening in the sheet metal, and a plastic flange would mount to the inside and the sheet metal of the kick panel would be sandwiched between the inner flange (where the hose mounts) and the outer inlet box.

Probably uses tapered head phillips screws with those decorative washers that spread the load and the head of the screw sits recessed in them.
