Most HEI's require 12Volts constant (check to make sure that is the case with yours). The stock Bronco Coil wire gives 12 volts during cranking, but drops the voltage to about 9 volts once you stop cranking. There is an in line resistor behind the dash that drops the voltage. You need 12 Volt switchable from your ignition. You can use your coil wire if you eliminate the resistor, otherwise pull a new wire or find a 12V switchable wire that is not being used, just make sure that it is 12V.

You could just use your existing resistor wire to trigger a relay. I have mine setup where I get a full 12V to the HEI wire vice going through the 30+ year wiring. Do a search and you can also find the simple wiring diagram for this mod.
