Sorry, don't have part anymore, but the side that has the two holes is about 3" long. Fairly small piece.

Is it the windshield frame bracket?
So it can fold forward and rest on the hood?

It is for the front tank. It bolts to the bottom of one of the floor braces, and the fuel tank rests against it. I actually am looking for one of those. If he is not using the front tank, and would like to sell it, let me know. Thanks.

That don't look like an aux tank bracket (strap holder) to me or none I ever seen.

The straps do not bolt to it. It is more of a locater bracket at the rear of the tank. The top rear curved edge of the tank rests against it when the tank is bolted in place against the floor. I assume it was a redundant piece to make sure the tank could not ever slide rearward.

I'm looking at my dis-assembly photos. You are right Half Cab, it is not the strap holder, but it is as jasonb said, the aux tank rear locating bracket. A small piece of rubber was glued to the flat on the bracket to cushion the tank when you tighten the strap j-bolts.

Thanks guys. He thought it might have been for the aux tank. Everything has been cleaned, plated and repainted like new.

I'll try and grab some pics, its a pretty sweet uncut original 68.

I wonder if they used them on all models. I don't remember seeing that on mine when I replaced my auxillary tank. I took advantage of having the tank removed and celaned everything up good and painted it. I would have thought that I would have noticed that.

Its bolted up on the rear "ceiling" of the aux tank compartment. There would be no need to remove it for a tank R&R. Mine was covered with 35 years of road grime and was almost invisible, I almost didn't notice it when I was disassembling my body.

I've got mine off now and nothing like that under there . I've also pulled another auxiliary tank from another Bronco and didn't see one on it either.

Here's my pre-disassembly pic. Keep in mind the photo is sideways as I was lying on the floor :).

I got the two lil holes in the hat raii there but one was never there. I've had this Bronco well over 30 yrs n am 2nd owner and do believe this is only time auxiliary tank ever been off and that piece has never been there.

Learn something everyday about these old rigs. Wonder why some would have had it n some didn't?

Only thing I can think of, since yours is a '76 like mine is maybe they were starting to wind down production and parts sourcing/availability was becoming sporadic? This bracket doesn't do a whole lot, protects a little from vibration with the rubber pad, but the straps and the filler hose do most of the locating. Strange.

You might be on to something as mine was a July '76 build and '77 being different and the last they may have ran out on mine?

Also another member on here has a'77 with a July '76 build month. Two different yrs built in the same month of one yr.
