Hey guys,
Its a rainy day down here in South Georgia so I decided to to update my 1975 EB headlight system. The old system was working fine just pretty dim. I had ordered a H4 Halogen headlight system with the new heavy duty headlight wiring harness from TBP. The installation went fairly smoothly with a few scraped knuckles and dropped tools. After I reinstalled the battery and fired her up all I have is the bright beams. No dim. Any ideas? The instructions seemed pretty idiot proof( until I came along). Everything is grounded, connections are tight but.....no dims. The one part that was not covered in the install sheet was connecting the new harness to the (+) side of the battery. I used one barrel connector for both wires, connecting them to the battery rather than two individual connectors. I dont think that would make a difference. Any ideas?
Thanks Again,
GatorDoc

check and make sure you have power to low beam realy? if so can you hear it click when you switch from high to low? if so do you have power coming out of the relay going to the lights?

So if incorrectly connected to (+) side of battery could cause lack of power to relay?

yes, if you missed a crimp or something. do you have a volt meter or test light? if so start at the battery and make sure you have power to the relay

I replaced my entire wiring harness with the painless kit and upgraded my headlights to the H4 as well and still had issues with the lights. They would turn on run for a couple min and turn off then back on. I replaced the headlight pull switch and they worked fine after that, it was a long shot for me but it was the only thing left to try. Good luck.

If both of those wires are connected to B+ and the highs work, then either the harness has a built-in fault on the low side, or the low relay is bad, or the low fuse is blown. Try swapping relays.

Found it. After 30 minutes with a volt meter I traced it back to the wiring harness under the dash. I was getting ready to pull the switch and take a look when I noticed a red with black stripe wire in the drivers support column that looked "freshly mauled" Turns out that was the culprit. A little electrical tape and I got dims again.
Thanks guys
