HELP: Strip Surface Rust/Paint & Repaint Rims

Alrightie, so I want to strip the surface rust and the interior paint out of my bronco's bed and cab.

And doing some research, people seem to recommend some type of paint stripper (whether it be Home Depot or "aircraft" type), and sand paper... 80 grit then followed by 180 grit.

I ultimately want to do this so that when I replace floor pan patches that I can seal it all with Por-15, then line it with a roll on bed liner.... then insulate it... then carpet it. I would love to seal the floor as much from future rust, from noise, from cold and heat.

Does this seem to be the right idea? Or does anyone have a better idea?

SECONDLY....

I want to strip the paint off of my rims. They were quickly sprayed from white to graphite gray. I'd rather not have to buy new rims, but would rather paint these and work with them. What type of sand paper combinations and prep work should I expect to do this right?

Thank you,
Joshua.

P.S. I'm hoping I can get most of this done before Fab Fords... and so that I don't have to do this again years from now.... so anyone with expert advice so I don’t have to do this twice would be greatly appreciated.

Joshua,

I did my tub exactly like you stated. I found a combination of processes works best. 1st off, don't try to do it all in one sitting. Unless you are sand/media blasting.

I used aircraft stripper (from Autozone and the like), what the aircraft stripper didn't get (maybe I wasn't patient enough. I stripped with a wire wheel on my 4.5" angle grinder. Welded in my new seat brackets, painted the tub with POR15 and rolled in Herculiner. 2 coats of POR15 1 coat of Herc. I wish I had more Herc to do at least a second coat.

I didn't put any carpet back in. nor do I intend to. I live in the desert of the southwest and carpet will get eaten by sand in no time out here.

Good luck. Expect a mess and be ready to clean it up when you get the stripper on the ground beneath your rig.

Here's a pic of the finished product. I also should have gone all the way up the sides. I don't know why I didn't. Just more to regret for later.
