:-[ Should I be worried? This is the first time I have ever got a letter like this after buying any vehicle. After taking the title to the DMV to get it titled in my name I got this letter that says.

The Missouri state highway patrol must inspect the vehicle to verify the year, make and police, public, and engine vehicle identification number. You will need to make an appointment at your local troop headquarters to have the vehicle inspected. An identification number verification and abandoned vehicle inspection (DOR-2763) or verification (FORM 5062) will be furnished/completed by the inspecting officer.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what they are talking about; verify police and public? Now I know the numbers on the frame match the title. But this bronco (like many) is a hodge-podge of parts. The body is not the original and I would be real surprised if the motor matches.

It may be as simple as they check the VIN for stolen and or leins and you go on your happy way. As long as the the frame and body are the same, then you should be fine. I do not think Missouri is as bad as the Cali nazis on the engine swaps.

I think all you need to worry about is the VINs on the frame and title. They match so you should be fine.

The only people who check for matching motors, trannys, etc., is the Corvette Club! ;D

I don't think they care if the vins match, they might be looking to see if any numbers come back with an "alarm" on them...(stolen).

Oh thanks! That makes me feel better. The vins had already been removed from the body. The only one I could find was the one on the frame. The guy told me it was built from 3 different broncos. My 1st thought was, shoot my 73 is built from more than 3.

I just gave them a call to see what's up. The bronco is not a 73 like the title says. The vin came back as a 69. That totally makes since. It has a D30 and a straight pattern T case plus the wiring had the square plugs behind the motor. I told my wife when we bought it, it was older than 73 but the numbers matched the title and the vin matched the original color and package.

LOL! If it was stolen I would want the owner to have his bronco back. I wouldn't have any trouble giving it up. Of course I would also tell them they are SOL and they shouldn't have signed the title if they wanted to keep it! :p

My dad had the same issue with a boat he bought. Someone in the DMV dropped a letter out of the vin on the title. After 3 years he still hasn't taken it up to the Highway Patrol to get it straightened out.

make sure the frame vin matches the title before you go any farther. If it doesn't you may want to avoid going. If it does get a vin plate and stamp it on that plate and mount it in the appropriate place for the year of the vin on the frame. Engine doesn't matter just tell them its a replacement.

get it as close to right as you can before you go, if you do n't you will fall into a beurauecratic nightmare and it my tkae years to get it right.

In kansas over here they want to check vin numbers just to verifiy the vehicle isn't stolen. Now I have yet to take mine over to see Officer Tate because I 'm not ready. However if the Missoura Highway Patrol is anything like the Kansas Highway Patrol Officer Tate I would look around for another inspection station. I'm hoping Officer Tate retires before I have to take mine over to his station and have a few specific persons and or him inspect my vin number and ask me questions. Last year I called them on the phone and was yelled at by one person and I then got into and argument with Officsa Tate all over the phone. I have talked to other people and they had similar encounters. Anyway that being the way it is, call the Patrol District Lt up and ask them to check the vin number, they may do it at least you may hve a heads up before you take it down there and hand it over to them.
