Holley sniper no spark all a sudden

So been driving my bronco for about three weeks and love the new Blueprint motor. Well went to run an errand this morning and she just cranks no fire just drove it yesterday no problems. Checked fuel all good checked spark none, swapped out the coil still nothing. Everything has power. So I’m guessing the CDI box? Not sure how to check it? Brand new motor, Holley sniper efi setup with hyperspark timing control. Ran great for the three weeks. Just figured I’d throw it out there as I wait for Holley to open on Monday.

Sure the rotor is turning? I'd pop the dist cap and be sure, I've sheared off the roll pin that holds the gear on the end of the distributor before. Just something quick and easy to check.

No spark from coil.

Which can come from a distributor not turning. If the pin sheared, or the gear material was wrong and the gears have self-destructed, those can be possible causes of your no-start condition.

And yes, it can be the CDI box. What type does Hyperspark use? Separate unit, or built-in?
What about electrical connections. Many "overnight" faults come from a wire that has lost it's signal.

Maybe check any splices and connections. Make sure your coil is getting a trigger signal from the computer.

Anyone have this setup can look at the cdi light and let me know on cranking if it goes from orange to green?

So when you say fuel is ok ,does that mean you see the injectors firing while cranking that would indicate you are getting and RPM signal to the sniper sytem …,what distributor are you using ,,and need to find out which wire/s is the trigger input to cdi box..

I’m running all Holley sniper cdi, coil and distributor. I just ran the cdi test by grounding the white wire and got spark from the coil. I then checked the white wire from the Holley sniper to the cdi and it zero’d out on meter. So there’s no problem in wiring or cdi or coil. So it’s got to be the ecu in the Holley sniper.

Yeah I went to ther web site they show the wiring diagram .by your process of diag I think your on the right track,,I guess the only other thing good signal from distributor if injectors are firing then rpm signal is present at ecu .

Got rpm signal on the hand held screen. Hope summit will just exchange the unit rather then waiting for sniper to repair it. Figures the one week of awesome weather my broncos down.

The handheld controller, does the RPM read anything while cranking the engine?

If I remember correctly, the distributor makes a signal that goes to the Sniper. The Sniper then sends signals to the ignition box that fires the coil.

So we have verified the coil has no spark. Output of the system is dead. Starting with the input, the distributor spins, that is good. Now does the distributor make a signal that the ECM is receiving? That is what the tach signal check is for, If it doesn't read anything you can't test anything downstream as there is no chance of signals being generated.

Also worth it to check the Sniper setup, make sure the ignition type is still set correctly. If it is looking for the wrong tach signal it will not read anything.

I have an rpm signal on hand held during crank.

Checked rotor on distributor it turning during crank

Did the cdi check and got coil spark during test taking signal
wire (white wire) and grounding it.

Checked ohm load on signal wire from sniper to cdi all good

Seems that sniper is not sending fire signal to cdi box. Also noticed that my IAC is at 61% I think this should be 5? Can someone check what yours is when key is on?

IAC at 5% after the engine is starts and fully warmed up. 61% at crank sounds correct. All that value does is control the amount of air entering the engine that the computer can control. It's wanting to let air in for a start.

The tach signal at the controller shows that the distributor and wiring to the computer are all good. I don't know the hyperspark to give much more detail than that. I used a Summit Racing house brand ignition module.

Are you sure fuel is good? I think the injectors and the fuel pump are both using the same relay. I assume you checked all that?
I run the sniper on one bronco and the Terminator on another, I have had a bad relay on the Terminator. Worked fine when parked, no start at next startup.
Just throwing out there.

Which do you prefer the Sniper or Terminator?

Sniper is simple compared to the Terminator. No complaints with either one. I bought the Terminator within a few months after t was released, Sniper didn't exist. If I didn't already have the terminator I would have Sniper on both. Sniper price is less than half of Terminator.

I am looking at both. I will have to buy a intake and probably a distributor (tfi)and ignition for the Sniper so the cost is getting close. I would like the minimal wiring with the Sniper but wasn't sure if I was going backwards away from multiport to tbi? I am sure either would be great.
I am just starting researching, thanks for the information.

Relay is good can hear fuel pump prime and then the injectors dump prime when is is first turned on. Talked to summit they said it’s a bad ECU but need Holley to give me an rma number for an exchange. You call Holley and there so busy it says call back.

Summit is sending me a new Holley sniper was on conference call with summit tech and Holley tech. Everything I’ve done tells them it’s a bad ecu in the sniper. So it should be here tomorrow and we will find out.
