I've read some good threads re. the intake install but do I need a insulator or riser on the carb? If so, which one.
Thanks

you'd be better off with one. i'm presently using a thermal gasket, it's about 1/4" thick. you can also use a 1" plastic or phenolic spacer if you have enough hood clearance. any heat you can get away from the carb will help.

X2 on the heat reduction. Also if you have room for the spacer use the four hole for better low end.

I used to have a 1" spacer under my Holley, which was on top of a Weiand Stealth intake, which is over an inch taller than the edelbrock, and it still fit under the hood with no body lift.

I use a 1/4" thermal gasket between the carb & intake (470 TA w/ Edelbrock Performer 289) and I made a 1" phenolic spacer to go between the carb & stock aircleaner (to clear the vent tube). Everything fits nicely. I used a block of modeling clay to give me a "squish" indicator as to how much hood clearance I had above the aircleaner; you might try the same before you go to buy your spacers/gaskets to make sure you get the right stuff the first time.
