I have line on a ‘66 Bronco for $500. How do I know if it’s worth restoring or just scrap?

If frame VIN , glove box VIN and title match then consider it. What is frame like? Engine and tranny solid?

You are looking at a total resto. New tub metal is 5k. You have your glass and wheels. ;)

If you can do it all yourself it is more than 1,000 hours work. If you average 8 hours a week that will take you 2.5 years. If you can't do it yourself then economically you probably should pass.

What town are you from. Welcome aboard, but fill in your profile..
I'd say buy it. & Start looking for you 2nd one. Always nice to have one to rob parts from.
If the doors will shut & aren't rusted off. Then it's the start of a trail ride.
Go to a couple of events & see what shows up worse than what you got.
I sold on about like that one & about 3 years latter I saw it. I couldn't believe what he'd done & I thought it was toast.

Fiberglass tubs are comparable pricewise to steel body pieces. But you have to put the steel together. If this is a running, driving bronco, you have all the pieces to swap into a new frame (if this one is too far gone) and a glass tub. I have a couple of titles for RUSTBUCKETS with good glovebox doors. I hope to build 'glass rigs with them.

I've seen a lot worse come back to life, but unless you have a bucket of money to pay someone to do the work, the only way it will be feasible is if you do the work yourself. As noted, it'll take a minimum of 2.5 years.

If the frame and drive train is good with a clear title grab it. Looks like that body is total junk, unless you really like playing with rust! But like others have said in the market today put it on Ebay and get $3K for it! LOL

Definitely worth more than $500 if the title matches the VIN. I have a '66 in equally bad shape - body wise - that I've been offered over $1000 for and I don't even have a title for it.

I think I’m probably going to pass. I texted the seller and said if the frame and drive train are usable I’d take it and he responded ...”Motor not good. It might be rebuildable. Frame marginal. ” open to interpretation but he doesn’t sound very confident.

All it takes is time and money. Just how much time and how much money is the question. Best of luck on your decision.

However, like some folks chimed in, if the frame and vin are good, then buy it and you can easily find replacement parts.

IMO it's all depending on your skill level and having the equipment and tools to do the job. Doesn't look like a good candidate to carry to a shop and have them do the work. Regardless it needs to have at least a decent frame.

I've seen this Bronco somewhere. OBX?

I would buy it for that price. There has to be more than $500 in parts there...

Ding ding ding ... you’re correct sir. It’s in the outer banks of NC

As for skills I’m a novice ... I’m willing learn, but I fear this would require a level of mastery I won’t soon attain. Seller says frame is marginal and when asked to elaborate he said he wouldn’t use it. He’s lowered the price to $400 by the way. I could probably get it for less

Thought so. I was over that way several weeks ago with the wife to fly kites and watch the hanggliding at jockeys ridge. I also saw a mustard yellow 76 ate up pretty bad as well. Trucks in that area that run up and down the beaches get rusted up worse than stuff in yankeeland
