The ones I see on Ebay from alterstart are 160 amp, 75 amp at 800RPM engine idle. Not sure if that's the same as the ones you get from the pull-it yards though.
I need one bad, but i'm afraid of starting a massive electrical fire!! Need new wiring harness first..
I am actually in the process of replacing the 3G on my '92 Exploder.
Based on my conversation with a local alternator shop that rebuilds them, I believe ToddZ is correct, for the 3G, the factory versions were 95A and 130A.
Ones listed with higher output than 130A are custom rewinds I think.
I bought a rebuilt 3G/130 one here in Canada for ~250 CDN, from a local alternator shop. Pretty much all new, bearings, guts, voltage reg, post and pulley. 1 year warranty, plus tons of good advice.
You can get them out of the pull-it yards for about $60 or less with wiring.
Taurus are good donors for them... tons in the yards... but there are two sized casings, wide and narrow... you want the narrow... the wide will have obvious ears sticking way out for the mounts.
And there are two flavors of output as well 95A and 130A.. look for the 130a on the case.... (best bet is to find a loaded Taurus with the 3.8L engine I think)
Some advice from my shop, they said the 3G brushes almost always start give it up around the 140K km (85K miles) combined city/highway use. Which is exactly where mine started to go out...
