66' built in March 66', W is Marlin Blue, u150 is 4300lb gvw, 798 is front bucket seats and full top, C is 3sp manual transmission, 03 4.11 open, 510444... the 51 is Denver sales area, and the 0444 is a special order number

Thanks for the help. Glad to know I was correct on my guesses on color and powertrain.

The G in your vin is for 302 but the transmission code will be a C or G by itself on the far right top row of the warranty plate on the glovebox door. G is automatic transmission, C is manual.

I’ve what is said to be a 1967. So far, I’ve been able to decode the following: Rangoon Red 3 speed U100 pickup with a 92“ wheel base. The vin plate is affixed to the driverside kick panel so it’s most likely a 66 or 67. The broncoohio decode hasn’t been working for the last week or so. All this has been garnered by reading everything I can. The thing I like to understand is how to determine the year. What portion VIN tells me it’s a ‘67? Thanks.

When Broncohio is down, you can use the CJ Pony Parts website:

https://www.cjponyparts.com/resourc...DMMQ1qZE5btKOpxt7izMkwSE_kuszvyFdP1rl4vfbPMrF

The last letter and number sequence will tell you the year.

66' was the only year that the last six characters are all numerical digits, so all 66' are either a 7 or an 8 after the L. 67' will have an A or a B after the L.

@okie4570 Thanks, great info! She’s got a B.

@toddz69 Thanks for posting the link to cjponyparts. I was looking at it last night, but not reading the vin plate correctly and thinking the 092 J U140, etc. was the number. What is that one considered?

However, I take it the U14NLB_ _ _ _ _, is it and the one that goes on the VIN verification? The only other supporting document we have is a bill of sale from the 80s…I want to minimize the number of trips of the DMV😆

Love the history you’ll have put together on these old truck!

I have read that the broncoohio site has quite a few errors when defining the VIN?

Can someone confirm or deny?
Some years are ok, others are not. Issues with color codes, axle codes, DSO codes, and engine codes as well on some years.

Yes, as @okie4570 noted, there are a number of errors on the site. I take it for what it is and if I'm "out in the field" looking at a rig and need to know production data, it's easy to dial it up (when it's working!) and get a good idea of what you're looking at. I wouldn't consider it an infallible source by any means.
