I have tried and tried to get the ignition switch out of the dash. I have the new piece and it has two teeth on it on either side. It looks like you should push it in, from behind the dash board (away from the motor), and turn. I am not having any luck and have spent over an hour. Can someone please help me out......asap!!! It's too nice for Old Yella to be sitting in the garage.

Thanks!

put the key in and turn it to accessories. get a paper clip and straighten it out and put it in that tiny hole below the key and push in all the way and I believe you turn the key and paper clip in and counterclockwise. If I remember right that is how I did it. good luck

sounds like you have a bad conn at the ign wire , {the particular wire that goes to the ign coil ... } check the coil for positive , if no pos with the key on , go back to the ign switch , must have a wire un hooked , or in the wrong place . on the back of the switch ....

what is happening , is the starter solinoid is shooting power to the coil , when you have your switch in the start position , then , when you let off , of the switch , it cuts the power to the coil , that is where the secondary part of the ign switch is spose to send power to the coil on its own ,,,

This is for a vechicle with points if it has a brain box you can still trouble shoot with wat I have said but I'm not too familiar with that ignition system.

Was it doing this before you changed the switch originaly. If so How is your starter solinoid wired up? If you look at the solinoid where the wires hook up on the front the batt. should be hooked to the left post and the starter to the right post. If those 2 are crossed it will do the same thing.

Other wise check the possitive side of the coil. You should have around 8-9 volts with the key in the on/run possision. If your solinoid is right and you have power in the on possision it should run.

If you don't have power in the on possision:eek: ?:? Then just to rule ouy any thing else..... Run a jumper wire from the possitive side of the batt. to the possitive side of the coil and fire it up. " DON'T RUN IT TOO LONG THIS WAY".

You will burn the coil up if you run it very long this way. If it fires up and runs then every thing in your ignition system should be fine. Your culpret should be your resistor wire that goes from the ignition switch to the possitive side of the coil. It should be a fairly large wire probably pink or maybe red w/ white stripe. When you find it check it at the switch see if it has power in the on possision at the switch. If it has power as it comes out of the switch and not at the coil then your switch is good and there is a break somewhere in the resistor wire. You can run a new wire but make sure you install a ballast resistor.

HTH and hope I didn't talk in too many circles.
