Hydroboost - Mounting location Superduty booster?

Ok, so I'm tired of so so braking with the vacuum assist (aftermarket) and went to he junkyard to start my 2000 Superduty hydroboost install. Fortunately, this year has the extra long brake rod and was planning on building a mounting plate for install on the firewall. However, after mocking everything up with my 351W and 2" body lift, (btw the pedal height is spot on), rotating the hydroboost 90 degrees, I can't see how I can remove the engine for any future upgrades without removing the unit. I read until my eyes bleed and saw how you can relocate the brake pedal to the clutch side (I have the bracket in place already), but not sure if I want to go that route. I even thought of building an angle bracket off the firewall, but the brake rod angle would be too great. Then I thought about hacking up the aftermarket angled booster bracket, but even that I don't really want to do since I'm planning on selling it to makeup for the $$ invested.

Any ideas or suggestions?

There is a bracket on eBay that puts the booster all the way over/above the inner fender.

Yea, I saw that bracket, but it seems the snout/brake rod is too long on the SD hydroboost. I can cut down and rethread the rod, but the snout on this thing is looong.

I did this with mine. I think I could weasel out the engine if I need to. Just have to go slow. Maybe, I think???

I figure if I had the vacuum booster bracket I would prolly remove it to pull the engine.

In my anxiety of this install, I'm probably overthinking it. If I had to disconnect the master cylinder in the event of a motor pull, then so be it. The SD hydroboost fits nicely against the firewall and the rod length is so perfect, I'll just proceed with my original plan for firewall mounting. Now, does anyone have a template for the 1/2" spacer needed for the 85 dodge master cylinder spacer? ;)

I just took my piece of aluminum and traced the MC on one side and the booster on the other side and started cutting and sanding. You could just make a circle or like mine kinda a four leaf clover!?!

doghows72: Thanks for the pic! I might just do a wood mock up and transfer over to the 1/2" aluminum plate. Mucho easier shaping wood;)

As a side note, I had my buddy machine down my spacer to about .40 so the push rod from the Hydro just contacts the MC piston. Also in another thread I found out the rear reservoir goes to the front brakes and the front reservoir goes to the back. Huge difference in braking.

Mount it directly to the firewall and stop making your brain hurt. If you ever need to remove the engine the master cylinder can be unbolted and moved aside w/o breaking any line. Or you can unbolt the unit from the firewall and move it aside w/o taking off booster or brake lines. You are going to tackle much bigger things to remove than that takign the engine out.

I agree with pfc_mark! I'm done exploring ways to alternately mount this thing and moving on. :)
