So just started the Bronco up after installing the Astro HB unit, but had no master cylinder on it. I was adding fluid to the pump and my little helper decided to push on the brake pedal.

The front rod, spring, and retaining clip popped out. The brake pedal will not come back and I am unble to push things back into place to re-install the spring. My 8 y/o son feels bad... Am I screwed or is there a fix?

I can just hear the words of encouragement you uttered ;D
I'm singularly un-versed in hydro-boost-speak, but what about disconnecting the fluid lines and trying to push it back then? Maybe the fluid pressure behind the piston is just too much, and there is a one-way valve in there keeping a certain amount of pressure on things?
Just talking out loud here. You know, "words of encouragement" and all that.

Alright I guess the Bronco Gods smiled on me tonight... Maybe because I walked away and cooked dinner. I did not stay on the problem with the goal of fixing it hell or high water! After about an hour and half I walked back out to the garage, looked things over with a clear head, put a socket in the hole the same size as the piston, got out my large Channel locks and gave it a little squeeze... Back in it went ;D I put the spring, rod, and retainer back in and we are good to go. My 8 y/o is smiling and seems to think that I can fix anything!

Hopefully this weekend it will be back on the road after I bolt up the master, bend some new lines, and bleed the brakes.

94-96 Astro HB unit

That what I used. Was actually talking about the master cylinder. I used a 79 camaro. It works fine other than my top will not stay sealed. Only other issue I had was air. In other words, bleeding PS and break lines was the big factor in my hydro working right. Good luck. Can tell ya that they work great once you have it set up right. I locked the tires up today as matter of fact :)

Did not catch that? I am using the same master cylinder as you...
