I have a 1974 bronco with a 347 with about 425hp. My c4 is trashed and does not have the hwy ability that I need. I am trying to decide which transmission to go with. I will run an atlas II. If I go the auto route what should I use and what will it cost? If I go standard should I go new AX15 and what will that cost with parts I will need. I’m leaning towards a 4R704. Help please!!!
33” tires
556 gears
This Bronco will spend most of the time on the road

Yours sounds like it wants to be a tire burner.
An AX15 is too light.
The 4R70W is more capable, but the GM A 700R4 would be the best choice. It's got better gear ratios,.

My understanding is that the number after the R is the torque capability of the tranny, r70 is 700ft/lb capable. Plenty capable, problem is most use very used trannys, not top notch rebuilds.

Just to clarify 556 gear ratio correct?

Build a 700r4 (but brackets and adapter will have a greater cost) or an AOD with the 4r70w gear set (no need for a computer).

Good luck..
