I did a whole bunch of searching on here and found a whole bunch of exhaust threads!

Lots of debating of 2 into 1 vs. Dual setup....but I didn't see anyone talk about doing a 2 inlet - 2 outlet setup...

http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/s...05&ab=8525554&recordID=&vehicle=&orig=8525554

My deal is --- I do not want a super loud exhaust. I like a low deep rumble when getting on it, but at idle I want it on the quiet side. Right now whatever the PO put on it --- I can barely have a conversation at idle let alone when driving the thing.

I am debating that 50 series Flowmaster --- or the so popular 2 into 1 magnaflow.

Any opinions and input is appreciated.

(and yes, I even watched the 50 videos I could find on youtube of everyone with their setups...tough to get an idea from those)

This probably won't help you a whole lot, but I did a two in-two out and Flowmaster 50 on my 66 half cab six cylinder. At idle it's fine, but does get a drone at cruising speed. If you don't mind the noise, the 50 series is fine, but I will try to find something quieter on current build. My cruising rpm's are 2800-3000 rpm so take that into account. Fit is good.

I'll sell you my magnaflow (the one you get from BC Broncos) ;D

I would rather have something even quieter.

Maybe I'll take our tahoe & the bronco to the exhaust shop & have them swap mufflers.

I did a 2-in 2-out system. BC headers to BC exhaust pipes. I bought the biggest MagnaFlow muffler I could get. Here is a link to my install thread:

It sounds really good but the carb has not been configured to its final setting. I just broke in a new cam. Its not as loud as a Flowmaster or Thrush. I wanted something quieter. There are quieter mufflers out there if that is what you want such as a Walker muffler.

So does that setup still have a tiny bit of aggressiveness to it?

I want quiet, but I don't want it to sound like a stock truck either.

My buddy had a tahoe with a flowmaster 50 series on there...and it had a nice low rumble that wasn't overwhelming. (I know...different car doesn't tell me much) but that is the goal I am going for. Nice clean deep sound, but no more ears ringing after 20 minutes on the freeway.

Looks nice. I am also cruising at similar RPM's so I am thinking I should probably go something quieter also. Magnaflow perhaps?

I've never had a Magnaflow. The 66 setup works for that vehicle, but I want quiet on this one. Been dealing with the same muffler shop since the late 70's so I'm going to talk to him about this one. I'm choking this new engine enough with stock manifolds so don't need to compound the problem.

I think he did a swap out for a quieter Walker muffler. He even video'ed it and you can listen to it. It was soooo quiet all you could hear was the air being sucked into the carb!!! I do a lot of hunting so I wanted something quieter, but I also wanted a little rumble. Give me ur e-mail address and I will send you a video I did yesterday. Again my carb is not set to final setting so it is sitting around 700-800 rpm at idle. Any lower it cuts off. It just needs fine tuning since its a new carb. It sounds a lot quieter than the side pipes I used to have when I got it. I woke up the neighborhood!

Crawdad, thanks for the input. That link to Heus didn't work though.

My email is Accordngs AT aol DOT com.

I also have side pipes at the moment. I definitely will be going straight out the back on the new setup though. That should help some with the sound...but I also like the look better. (and won't stink up my garage so much when I am warming her up!)

It's best to turn and run them out to the side. Any leak around tailgate, liftgate and it will pull the fumes in. Surprised no one else has mentioned it. Some people have a more/less sensitive sense of smell than others I guess. I've heard complaints even running with no top.

I've run straight out the back for years and never had exhaust fumes come into the cab. Not even a little bit.

This is why I'm confused. I see a lot of setups running straight back. My 68 I had was straight back..I never noticed any gas fumes in the car...but I only drove it for a total of 5 minutes, so doesn't count for much.

Just because you can't smell fumes doesn't mean you aren't getting potentially dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the passenger compartment. It's odorless.

http://www.cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm

Well, I've never experienced any of the symptoms of carbon monoxide illness when driving, either. If it helps you sleep better at night, run it out the sides. If you're still debating the issue, consider that a Bronco's cabin is FAR from air-tight. It's so porous, there is far more clean air leaking in as toxic air at any given point even with the windows rolled up.

I'm by no means any type of air expert....but I don't see why exhaust going out the side would let any less CM in then out the back. Seems like just as easy of a chance of seeping in the cabin...especially since I have the soft top.

But who knows...perhaps.

My big issue is what muffler to put on the thing!

I run duals straight out the back and I think the whole exhaust getting "sucked into" the cab is a bunch of b.s. This implies a vacuum inside the truck and the exhaust not being dissipated into the air behind the truck. Probably more fumes from the tc shifter boot and the holes in the firewall.%)

Hmm, an attempt to reclaim your own thread? Very well.

There are a ton of videos on youtube where you can get an idea of muffler sound as well as on this forum. With noise being a concern, consider that Bronco cabins are steel boxes with minimal insulation. Your mufflers likely will sit somewhere under your seats. So a more aggressive muffler probably will sound even louder in a Bronco while driving than in, say, a Torino or full-size truck. If you pick the wrong muffler--no sweat--you can cut it off and weld a new one on. I like turbos. Relatively quite, but sound great on a V-8. . . and cheap. I don't see the appeal of a 2-in-2-out. Save money on a single muffler?

Now. . . Should Pluto still be a planet, or not???

My 2c is if you are runing headers and larger pipes there's no such thing as a quiet bronco, that walker muffier will still make nice sound even thou its designed to be quiet. The problem as I see it is theres not enough pipe in the system to make it quiet.A pick-up has 3-4' more feet of pipe you can make it super quiet, but as you shorten the pipe the the system tunes itself louder. Wheather you go out the side or out the back I'am sure theres just as many pros & cons either way. But there again if you run around with your top off you are going death from all the road noise anyway so in few years open headers should sound perty good.
