Interesting to see my Bronco I totally restored showing up on MECUM. I sold it the end of 2017 to a guy in California. I made good money.
It looks exactly like it did when I drove it up on the transport truck. Still has my CB antenna. Same tires, hub caps, etc.

Wish I could edit the topic, as I meant to type I sold it in 2017. Lost track of my years :).

I didn't know you sold it, I always thought that thing was a beauty.

Thanks. Yes, drove it a couple years after completing, then got offered a lot of money and sold. Bought a 38' Ericson sailboat.
The Bronco turned out nice. Was not perfect, but with what I started with turned out pretty good. Was a lot of work. I think I enjoyed the build more than driving it. If a donor truck wasn't so much now I would get one to do a more off road build. Driving one that pretty is sort of nerve racking. Don't want to hurt it.

Hey JAFO,

Did you keep your fj40 as well? In terms of driving experience, which did you prefer? (I believe I asked in the past, but don't remember offhand the answer, lol).

Do you have a build thread on ih8mud?

I still wouldn't mind an fj40, and would consider selling the bronco for one. However I don't know if the fj40 is any better or worse on the highway - later year fj40s are supposedly better.

I just sold my FJ40 to a very nice guy. Wife and I are downsizing and will retire in a few years. As long as we stay healthy the plan is to sail our boat across the ocean. I don't want a lot of things right now as when we start our travels it will be less to worry about. Wife and I have had sailboats since we married in 84. Done a lot of coastal sailing, but only a tiny bit out in the ocean. I am focused on preparing our boat for adventure.

So, hands down the FJ40 was my favorite of the two. I like its looks better. It drove better. Well, was more fun to drive. It was slow. But I was never in a hurry. I daily drove it four years. Then it set a lot the last year I owned it. Was Almost hit twice and thought I would stop daily driving in it. Too many people on their damn phones.

Sold for $39,600. I think that includes the buyers commission

They didn't make much over my sale price. After shipping not much at all. I guess that wasn't the person that bought from me selling. Wonder how many times it has changed hands since late 2017?

It means seller netted 32400 if Mecum is still at 10 percent on both ends. They do show their results with the buyers fee added...

Thanks for the info. I had an 80 series, and now a 200 series. A 40 series was in the cards, but I thought the Bronco would be more drivable with the v8 and automatic, lol.

Ha, yes, I did not cut the suspension. Geez. I sold it for more than that guy netted.

If I were to do this build again I would either buy the complete body or buy all brand new tin and spot weld it together. I burned a lot of hours working to save parts of the truck. In the end not much was original metal and buying all new metal would have sped up the process. It was a learning process. A second build would go faster for sure if the bug ever bites me again.

I find it interesting that you thought the FJ drove better. I have a friend that has a very nicely restored FJ that I have driven. I thought that it drove very rough and didn't handle well at all. It was worse that the old Jeeps that I've driven/owned. I think Broncos ride and handle way better.

Ditto here. I just got to drive a nice one here (twice) for a friend in Portland that bought it, and felt the same result.

Same here......

I daily drove an FJ40 back in Australia for 13yrs, and still got back problems ;D

The whiplash inducing 351C may have had an effect, but those leafs up front are harsh.

Yes, that was a sweet hard top! Thanks to you I got the Bronco on the road a lot quicker. If the wife and I were planning to stay settled it would have been a different story. Both old vehicles would be in the garage. But if our plans pan out we won't need cars much in a few years. At least I think they will be in storage for a while. But you know how it goes, life is what happens while you're making plans.

I just wish people would stop calling anything non-stock with a bit of a snorkel a "cold air intake" when the filter is still under the hood and un-shielded! Geez, it's like Dan on Fantom Works telling that guy his Mustang 9" had a "Posi" in it.
Hard to educate them when they find it's easier to just keep talking...
