I guess I have my idle set too high... How does one know what the "right" idle is? I have an aggressive cam and I've tried setting idle lower than my current 900-1000 (and I thought adjusting idle mixture the right way) but it lopes a bit at 700-800.
How do you keep it from slamming hard into gear on a automatic when your running idle at 900 to 1200 ? With my idle set at 700, it still fells like it engages hard.
Ok, so this is a thread to frustrate me! 302, .040 over, 351 windsor cam, Mass Air EFI, Explorer Upper and Lower intake and idles around 900 to 1000 rpm. Definitely high compared to the avg being 700ish!
650 to 700 rpm for years. Recently I bumped to about 800 to 850 to get a little better ps performance at idle. I'll probably go back to 700 when I get a smaller ps pump pulley.

C-4
Mines at 700 with a lopey idle. 650 with a bump in it. At 800 up it smooth with no attitude.
351W .030, crower baja beast cam. NP435.
I have throttle/idle adjustment on my dash.
750 warm. Haven't got choke idle figured out or cold start without choke engaged in summer.
In summer with cold engine and no choke engaged it takes about a minute of throttling to get it going without wanting to die? Fresh pro-rebuilt of carb. Have idle screws adjusted for max vacuum and runs great once warm... I think I need to adjust so it has some choke..
My 351 idles smooth at 500. It barely moves in drive with the stock converter. I built it for low end torque and don't care what it does over 4000 RPM. In fact it only goes over 3000 about 5 percent of the time.
