I just started uploading video from the 2025 Legacy Baja Nevada. 909 miles of dirt, everything from trophy trucks to 3 wheelers and one early Bronco. The course was very fast.

Wow. Do drivers actually bump you from behind like that or is that just a total d-bag move?

Those guys in the fast trucks tend to be a little impatient. They should have been well ahead of us because they start before us and travel a lot faster. We had to take the slow car cut-off which eliminated 130 miles for us, but it was probably placed too early in the course. That happened at race mile 305.

It's supposed to be just a gentle bump to get your attention, not a full-on ramming. Sometimes the dust is so bad that you can't see them coming up behind you, particularly if they're a fast vehicle. And sometimes they're into your rear bumper harder than intended because they couldn't see you either.

And anyone who even lightly taps a Class 11 (Full Bodied VW Bug) gets shunned by everyone else. Legal or not, there some things that you just do not do, and that is one of them. No matter what, you do not do that.

Because unlike everything else out there they are "soft" at the rear, they can't have a rear bumper that can take a hard hit or even any hit at all. So if one is hit it crumples the engine cover into the only v-belt on the engine. That v-belt drives both the charging and the cooling systems. A hit on them pretty much takes them out of the race not to mention destroys some now rare sheet metal.

The real Ironmen of the sport are the Class 11 guys. Not to take anything away from any other class because none of them are easy, but those 11 guys are usually out there the longest and get beat up the most. Ironically, they usually also cover the fewest miles.

Thanks for the explanation

When I was racing MX classes with my '72, the bumping was pretty standard and often pretty hard. You'd only get black-flagged if observed making a direct hit on another truck that was, in the opinion of the track official, overly aggressive and/or unnecessary/avoidable. We had some pretty stout "bumpers" on both ends of the trucks.
