Ignition Wire Meltdown - Need Help Please

Replaced my ignition switch while doing a complete new dash (dash cover, new switches, knobs, autometer guages etc...). Key did not return properly when I cranked the engine and/or I hooked something up wrong and had a small fire and wire meltdown. (Almost pulled the pin on the Halon Extinguisher).

If you follow the 2 main flow lines off the brake fluid resevoir, there are 2 wires that plug into something inbetween them. They are purple and purple/red from what is left of them. They join up with a black/red that comes from rear of truck and they then plug into 3-way plug driver's side firewall area. black/red wire ok I think but purple boys are FRIED.

The above harness also joins up with the front and rear light harnesses (4-way plug driver's side firewall); miraculously, I don't think I seriously damaged any of them.

Headlights, running lights, brake and hazard lights ALL work both front and rear. I will replace any suspect wires as a precaution but at least they all work. Can't check blinkers.

Can someone please tell me what the heck happened and what the 2 purple wires are/were that I fried? What do they plug into inbetween the brake lines? Am I totally screwed or can I get a replacment plug and run 2 new wires back to the ignition again assuming all else is ok?

Fellas, please be gentle, I still smell like an electrical fire while writing this...

Any help would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. Didn't see the fried purple twins on a wiring diagram but figure someone knows what's going on here?

THANKS IN ADVANCE,

Black/ red should be back-up light wiring, purple and purple/ red will be for the brake warning light.
It sounds like a wiring problem that initiated your meltdown, make sure you haven't inadvertantly added a ground to your ignition switch....

A halon extinguisher??! I thought those were all extinct by now! Exceptionally efficient but extremly hazardous to your health. I wouldn't use one in the enclosed confines of your trucks cab if I were you.

Thanks Stlkikn.

Based on your post, can I get away with NOT having the Purple and Purple/Red wires to the Brake Warning Sensor and Light?

Will the Ignition still work ok without them being connected to the Ignition Switch?

I'll run a new Black/Red for the back up lights.

Please let me know and thanks again.

You can get by just fine without the imbalance sensor, unless you have a very strict safety inspection to go thru. The warning light was federally mandated effective Jan. 01, '68. The switch does not affect braking performance in any way.

he's right. just the other day, I realized that mine's been unplugged since I had the engine out 5 years ago.

Brake Sensor

Man, you guys don't know how relieved I am and how much I appreciate your help. I was up past 2 a.m. making sure these were only wires that got fried.

Very fortunate I did not burn up the entire harness.

I called Centech this a.m. and he confirmed your posts. He said you don't need the Purple wires and the ignition switch should work fine without them.

Apparently, there is a grounding appendage on the Brake Sensor Clip at the ignition switch. He said if I "muffed" that up when connecting, there is no fuse to save the day and you know the rest...

I'll run a new Blk/Red for the back up lights and simply disconnect the plug at the Brake Sensor in the bay and pull out what is left of the purple wires.

Thanks again Fellas.
