Intake and Carb

I think I am ready to ditch the 2150 and 2bbl intake on my 75 and swap in a new intake and 4 bbl carb. So what are your recommendations? Loaded question, I know. Holley vs Edelbrock, and dual vs single plane intake. Are the Summit brand intakes and carbs any good? I am leaning toward the Edelbrock intake as they seem to be a better quality and made in USA. So let me know what works and what fits.

My 75 is bone stock engine wise so nothing to worry about as far as mods. And I may drop in an Explorer 5.0 that I have sometime later so this intake will move with it.

I use the Edelbrock intake with a Holley 4010 series 600cfm. Properly tuned I get between 13-16mpg. Some say the 600 cfm is a little big for a 302, but I have always run them with no problems. Holley no longer makes a 4010, but they are still out there or Summit makes their version as a M2008. It is a one piece bowl design like the old Autolite 4100's.

Engine Masters did a carb shootout, and the Summit brand was a top contender for ease of use and performance.

Sounds like with the explorer engine in your future you are not likely to be installing a TBI set up. Is that correct?
If there was any chance of that I would say go with the single plane as long as you could find a fairly low profile one that would still fit under the hood of a bronco.
Otherwise dual plane is definitely the way to go, especially with a stock, or stockish engine.

I like both Holley and Edelbrock products, and I do like that the Edelbrocks are made in the USA.
They also generally win or at least tie for best power in dyno shoot outs that I’ve seen.
There was an episode of engine masters where they did a 351 Windsor manifold shoot out and although I think they were mostly single plane, the Edelbrock won that one too by at least a small margin.
I think Weiand makes a good product too, but I’ve had more experience with Edelbrock.

Yes times 10 for that Summit brand carburetor.
Not only did it win in most categories, but it’s a really nice design based on the old Ford carburetor.

When I got my '74, someone had already installed an Edelbrock manifold and Holley 600 CFM. That 600 was just too much
for the stock 302 (IMHO) that only had a dual exhaust as any modification. Always having to fiddle with it to get it to run right. A friend
who races and also builds engines said while it's counter-intuitive, go find the *smallest* 4 barrel you can find, the logic being you
don't race and low to midrange performance is what you want (venturi velocity and other factors). Found a 390 CFM Holley at
Speedway, installed it and could not be any happier. Ran great out of the box, all I had to do was minor float and idle adjusts.

I played around with a couple combinations.
Happy with a 60's iron FoMoCo 4bbl intake and a 390 CFM Holley.

I called Summit Racing a few years ago and asked about the M2008 carb, and they told it would not work off road ( doing 4x4 stuff ). They said the M2008 for for street use. Just what I was told by one of their Tech's.
And
The Edelbrock carb's are fuel pressure sensitive

I've had a few 4bl intakes and never felt a difference. Currently using Weiand Street Warrior because it is aluminum and low profile. There is a lot of chatter about duel plane manifolds with throttle body efi but mine is fine. I actually prefer the duel plane because you can feel when one of your injectors is not working.
As for carbs.... Well I wouldnt be running a Fitech if I found something I really liked.. :)

X3 on the Quadrajet need to run an adapter which adds another inch to the height or use an offenhouser intake and wallow out the secondary ports in the carb base on the intake. offenhouser has made in the past a tall and a short manifold. the only issue is no auto kick down linkage. some day I have to work on that but its been on there almost 30 years so manual down shift is the name of the game.

A Lokar kick-down cable will likely fix that issue. Not only is it easy, it is adjustable so you can have it "kickdown" at the spot you want it to engage.
