Intake gaskets for stock heads and Weiand 8124

I would like to upgrade my intake to the Weiand 8124 and I'm not sure what gaskets to use. If heard great things about the 1250S3, but now that I've read the comments on Summit I'm not sure. Few of the comments said they leaked with the stock heads and Weiand intake.

Any suggestions?

In the comments for that gasket is says they didn't work for a 302.

Any other suggestions? I would like to order the intake and gaskets today.

You are always going to read reviews that you may or may not be able to confirm proper fit.
One person says it does not fit his 302. Who know's what that person has for a setup (custom heads, intake, year, etc...)

Go to your local Nappa and get what they have for a stock 302 for your year.
If they don't fit you can return. They sell Felpro as well.
I haven't done a intake swap in several years but never had a problem with gaskets. It's nowadays with the hundreds of custom setups and heads/intakes etc.. that causes the confusion.

Weiland/Holley suggests a FelPro 1250 for that intake. The 1250s3 has the same port sizes but has a thin steel reinforcement and holds up a lot better around the coolant ports. Here are the installation instructions.

I've seen that intake and it looks a lot like the Edelbrock performer but has a better amount of material around the ports for sealing. That'll be my next intake.;)

I was hoping you would respond because I've read in a few different threads that you like using the 1250s3. When I read the review and it mentioned this specific intake and stock heads leaking, I wasn't sure if it was the one to use.

The link doesn't work for me.
Thanks,

Don't use the 1250s. I used them the last time and the slipped. Had some leakage around the coolant ports as well. I don't recall the part number, but Jason at BC Bronco told me the correct gaskets to use and they are steel cored. So far, so good. I believe there is a steel cored version of the 1250 that some people have used as well. Give Jason a call.

Edit...should have read Blubuckaroo's comment better. The Felpro set he's recommending appears to be the steel core version. Good luck

Let's try this link. There's an instruction link near the bottom of the page.

Sure, you'll always have the occasional negative review on anything. The customer may have had other conditions contributing to the failure. It's hard to tell. Fact is I'd use the 1250S3.;)

There are diff. gaskets, some better than others. We kind of like the fel-pro because they are consistently good. That doesn't mean any of the others aren't good. But I had this thought after hearing about the bad comments that there are a lot of things that could go wrong installing a intake even with good gaskets that had nothing to do with the gaskets. Here is a few I can think of off hand. Poor install can cover a lot of ground alone so I wont, but wrong gaskets for the intake and heads being used which may not match, one head being surfaced or both too much without surfacing the intake, damaged head and/or intake surfaces and warped intake come to mind.

Thanks for the input from both of you. The intake will be here today and I will try to find the 1250s3 local or order if I have to. I'm great at following instructions so hopefully I won't have any issues ;D
