Seeing how the rod size was never checked in the first place and the fact that you ran it with loose rod caps, I would pull it and re do it all. Nothing egg shapes a rod quicker than running it with a loose cap. Now if you have nothing fancy in the engine like a good set of aluminum heads You might get away with putting rod bearing in it. But be prepared for the collateral damage an engine failure can cause.

I'm With Bax. Better safe than sorry.

I'm leaning towards Bax and your recommendations. PLus, I'm thinking about having other stuff done too like port and polish the heads.

IS it worth it to port and polish?

Also, am I correct that if I pull the pistons, I have to get new rings again or can they be re-used?

rings can be reused if they're not screwed up. you gotta remove the pistons carefully to avoid damaging rings. reinstall pistons carefully and correctly using ring compressor. look at and feel all cylinder walls for possible damage during engine run. did you torque the main bearings?

Yes, I did tordue the main bearing caps. just didn't torque the rod bearing caps. Not sure why.

Porting may be worth it but on a street engine polishing is not realy worth it. It depende to some degree on what the porting will cost and how good the porter is. Also the availability of aftermarket heads must be taken into account. I have very well ported iron heads that I am very happy with. The compression was made accordingly and they work verry well. If I was to change to aluminum heads the compression would end up about a point to low IMO. Right now my explorer lower intake is on its way back to me from the same porter. I think the new combo will work well.

Quick update: I have decided to do the full frame off on the 76. I have already pulled all the wiring back out, labeled and stored everything away nice and neat, and am ready to pull the body.

Since I already have most of the drivetrain done, this should be a matter of pull it all apart, clean it, paint it, put it back together so I'm hoping the body is not off the vehicle that long... Time will tell.

The only thing missing that I have not bought yet is the suspension components. With that said, last year I was not prepared for the black friday sales the vendors put on and I swore I wouldn't let that happen again. So today the email from WH came out and I jumped and bought the 2.5" leaf springs kit, 2.5" coils and the rocker panels (since they were on sale).

I now have what I need to keep this part of the project as short as possible, I hope ;)

Thank you WH for the sale. Now I'm holding out for Toms to have a sale so I can get the floor pans I need. Come on Toms!!!

Pretty much.

I've spent time and money on the 69 for now while collecting parts for this one. I also keep going back and forth of doing all the work myself or send it off and get it done. I really want this one done better than right but can't seem to pull the trigger on paying someone to do it.

So I'm just collecting parts and saving up money till the day I make a final decision.

Like I said, I'm also spending money and time on the 69. Have a few more things I want to get done on the 69 before I dive into this one again.
