Just purchased a James Duff floor mount shift kit. Three on the tree is beyond tired. I did not order the kit with the fiberglass tunnel cover as I would rather weld up my own. What gauge metal did you guys use for yours and any pictures you guys could share? I have a pretty good idea of how I want to tackle it but wouldn't mind seeing what you guys have come up with. Thanks.

The rest of the floor I think is 14 gauge. Could use that to stay as stiff as everything else. I've seen a lot of diamond plate also. Some look good, some not.

I've seen listed from 14 to 18 gauge as the standard thickness. I believe 14 would be on the thick side. Our special made 16 ga panels for the floor are supposedly thicker than the standard ones, so that must make those 18 ga. Whether that was original, or just what the replacements are, I don't know.

And that doesn't mean that the floors are the same as fenders, but sounds like even 16 or 18 would be acceptable as a tunnel cover.

Good luck. Post up some pics when you get going on it.

Can I ask a dumb question?

Why is the tunnel necessary............I don't recall having one in my FJ55 when I converted. I need to search some pics on here because I recall some I just didn't care for and others seemed seemless.

Sorry if it seems obvious, Dave

The shifter is mounted to the side of the tranny and comes up through the side of the tunnel, not the top.
