Well, I've been lurking here for about a month. Been reading page after page of posts, pics, garage views, etc., all while working out the logistics to pick up this new project.

First year, 1966 Ford Bronco - Half Cab Pickup (from the VIN, this was an early build from Sept. ’65), in Caribbean Turquoise. I’ve been working on it the past few weekends and evenings at a farm out in Roxboro, NC and got it running two weeks ago (inline 6, 200) and brought it home last week. It was a previous restore project, that I would estimate at about 60% complete.
- Fully original drivetrain – with 3 speed manual trans, Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 30 front axle and Ford 9” rear axle all check out to ‘65
- Motor dates to ’68 – so the original 170 i6 was replaced with a 200 at some point in its 54 year life
- Original wheels, with '67 hubcaps (I believe)
- All original interior including the ’66 instrument cluster, dash, bench seat, etc.
- All glass with exception of windshield and driver-side vent wing is original Car-Lite glass dated to ‘65
- It has had some body panel, floorboard, and rocker panel replacement work done, but parts were OEM type replacement sheet metal parts, available on the market today
- It has good bones, and a solid frame - just needs some cleanup and suspension work (springs and shocks at both ends)
- Original steel half cab top, with the drip edge repaired and original glass
- It's a repaint, that was done just ok. They used good paint, but didn't clear-coat so I need to figure that out. Lot's of over-spray clean up to do as well - this is the stuff that drives me nuts...

We’ve been searching for years for the right restore project candidate, and finally found the one! Still needs a lot of work on the electrical, motor & drivetrain, and suspension. Also needs a lot of detailed cleanup on the work that has already been completed. Of course, it wouldn't be a proper project in 2020 without an Instagram account to follow the progress: @66_hlfcab

I'm in the Greensboro, NC area so if anyone is local - give me a shout.

This forum has already proven to be a gold mine of knowledge, and a great vibe among the members. Happy to be a contributor and look forward to learning a lot about this early Bronco from y'all. My last Bronco was a '90 Eddie Bauer edition (blue/tan).

Cheers! - Chris

Best 66 color! How stock are you trying to return it to as far as correct 66' parts?

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the warm welcome.

The area that needs the most work is electrical. My plan is to re-wire the entire truck with a new harness and everything.

As far as the overall plan, since it's not entirely original and has had body work done, definitely not concourse worthy, I'm a little less worried about every part being 100% year correct. However, my plan is to keep it looking as original as possible.

I'm also a Jeep guy (sorry folks), and have a fairly built up 2 door Rubicon as my daily driver. I do a lot of camping, and off-roading and that vehicles is purpose built for everything I do. This one will remain stock height, look and feel. I enjoy taking what's there, and trying to bring it back to life!

About the only place that I plan to stray a bit, is while I like the half cab, it's not practical for my wife and I take it out to do nature and wildlife photography. We take a fair amount of gear with us, and a full size hard top would be awesome. It might end up kind of 'dual top' vehicle at some point.I've thought about the soft tops, but I'm still on the fence based on the amount of drilling and permanent hardware install they require.
