Just so you know....

I have a perfectly running Explorer with a 4R70w trans in it. I am parting out the whole rig.

PM me if you are interested in it.

Thanks for the offer, something to consider. How many miles on the trans? and how much do you want for it?

Today I drove the Bronco over to the local performance shop that had done the exhaust/CAI and tune on my 13 Camaro SS/RS. I wanted to have them look it over and get their input on getting a bit more pep. They recommended a cam change, doing headers and exhaust. I told them I had planned for 4.30 gear but they said that was too much. I told them I am aiming for 75mph 2250 rpm, 34 inch tires, they said 3.90 would be better.

Anyway, what is the consensus among the EFI 50 owners? Do you usually keep the 5.0 stock or have you modded for more power/torque?

That's a bit low for a 5.0L, it would be better at least 500 RPM's higher.

Here is a pic of my EEC, Im not certain if it was from an Auto trans Mountaineer or not. Does it matter? I googled the numbers and it came back with 97 Moutaineer 5.0 , but I couldn't find any mention of drivetrain.

Your garage says you are running a NV3550 and it has a .78 overdrive fifth gear. Don't forget that when you calculate your RPM.

All 5.0 Explorers and Mountaineers came with the 4R70W. You will just need to send your ECU to a tuner (i.e. EFI Guy) and have him program the trans back into the ECU.

Ok, I just wanted to make certain that I didn't need an EEC from a specific model.

Thanks for the info, Im new here , but I know who EFI guy is, I read all of his stuff, I think he said he was taking a little break. His knowledge and talent amazes me.

Thanks for the heads up . I did calculate it for the 3550 , but also the 4R70w as I am considering doing the swap..

He's only taking a break from the harness work; he is still programming ECUs. You might actually want to give him a shout because the 4R70Ws did change over the years; And depending on what ECU you have, you might need a specific year of trans, or not; I don't really know.

No problem. I had to mention it because most of the gear calculators figure the RPM at a 1:1 top gear ratio. Going to the 4R70W might involve adding wiring and connectors back into the harness. I do believe EFI GUY strips out the unneeded stuff based on the application when he does his harness work.

Or you could leave your harness and ECU alone and opt for the USShift controller for more tuneability.
