Keys Scratching Dash

Any suggestions on how to prevent, keys from scratching the dash? (My key ring consists of house key, ignition key & Bronco door key)

IMG_0354_zpsad305b72.jpg

Appears someone, at sometime, placed some scotch tape, beneath the ignition, to prevent further scratching.

Anyone do this - Is this a good fix?

I have some felt strips, designed to be placed under furniture, to protect hardwood floors. I tried a sample piece (at the base of the door), but it seems to affix too firmly,... & I'd fear trying to remove it, in the future, would cause more damage, than it prevented.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

One of the vendors sells a key guard. I personally don't like the look. I would get a keychain that has a valet styled detachable key.

I have a magnet next to the ignition. It keeps the keys from moving round but more importantly keep them from falling out of the ignition since I have no tumblers or springs!!!

Thanks Guys!

A thin magnetic strip,... sounds like a good idea.

The hunt begins!

You could also get a chunk of clear 3M plastic film. The type they use to put clear bras on cars now a days. I'm sure a place that installs them would give you a small chunk of it for free.

Sounds crazy, but a rectangular piece of shipping tape does the trick. I am preserving my dash by using a single key.

Found a fridge magnet/business card.

Cut it to fit.

Works for now, until I find something better.

Thanks!

Tape was my initial thought - But wondered/asked, if it removing it later, could be problematic (remove paint, from places already scratched/chipped)

Cheers!

Another way to handle this is by using a long key. I did this for the past several decades on the Chariot. No scratches at all. This is hard to do with the aftermarket key cylinders as they are not the same as the factory keys. In fact, I ended up just swapping my old key cylinder in when I replaced the ignition switch.

Great idea - Trying to remove an adhesive later, is/was a concern.

Something clear would be ideal.

Cheers!

I used the rubber adhesive backed stuff found at hardware stores that used on steps for a non skid surface...it's made by 3M....I cut it to fit the bottom part of the bezel and to wrap the bottom of the dash. I think it comes in black, grey, and clear.

How about push button start... ;) Put the key in the center console or glove box and just have a button on the dash.

It's on my wish list of things to do.
