Last Resort Question 88 Ranger no PS

I know this is a Bronco forum but I figured I'd ask anyway. I saw your tech article about the 5.o Exploder accessory drive conversion. I did a V-8 conversion on my 88 Ranger from a 97 Exploder. Everything went in good and is running except that I have no power steering. The truck has a steering box and not a rack. It is pumping but not very fast. My question is, is the pump in the article, which is what I have, capable of moving the steering box? Has anyone had this issue. I know the lines are correct because they are different sizes so you can't really screw them up. My last choice is to pull the box and do a rebuild on that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Pump should handle that box .
check the lines just because you think they are correct does not mean they are correct.

did you bleed the steering out with the wheel off the ground and turn lock to lock a few dozen times?

Keep bleeding the air out....Explorer pumps take a lot to bleed the air bubble out.

I read on a ranger forum where they tapped a fitting on the cap and pulled vaccum on the system to bleed everything way quicker.I don't have a link but it doesn't sound very hard.It will work on any system too.

Did a stroked 5.0 into a '90 ranger about a decade ago. Same thing you have.
Used the Explorer accessory drive as is, no modifications needed. Pump worked just fine with the Ranger box. I actually swapped the Ranger box out with one from an F250 as mine did have a little slop in it. Kept the F250 (2WD) pitman arm as it was a little longer and gave a slightly quicker steering.

I used the same fittings, meaning the pressure from the old one to the pressure on the new one. Didn't know if I needed to swap them or not. I've run this for a 3 weeks back and forth to work, about 750 miles and still no PS so I don't think it's a bleeding issue, since I've done all the bleeding tricks. I'm just at my wits end right now.

I had to wait over the winter to work on this so I'm doing now since the weather broke to revisit this.

Here is the picture looking at the pump from the top.

Per the article in your tech section about the acc drives, I'm using the 16mm/6AN fitting with a 6AN line. Could the line be too small, yes the o-rings were smashed but that's the least of the problem atm.

When I jack up the front the wheel turns using 1 finger but on the ground you need to be a bodybuilder to turn it. Nothing is binding that I could see, so I'm at a loss right now.

I'm going to open the box to do a visual on it but right now I'm working blind so any help would be appreciated. Thank you
