Has anyone converted to LED turn signals, side marker lights and brake lights? If so how did it turn out and which route did you take (replacement bulbs, complete unit replacement, etc...)?
I have LED taillights and side markers. I used the self-contained oval LED trailer taillights and small 3/4" round LED's for the side markers. In my case it was easy to install them because I have all fiberglass bedsides/corners and fenders. So I just cut the holes to fit. It would be harder to run these with stock sheetmetal. With stock sheetmetal and light fixtures, the replacement bulbs would be easiest.
I used LED replacement bulbs but had to use regular bulbs in the rear turn signals so the flashers would work. I guess the LEDs don't draw enough current to make the flashers operate.
I put the Tom's kit in. It has bulbs for all the marker, turn and brake lights and load cells on the turn signals so they draw enough current to heat up the flasher unit. I like the way they look and the bulbs last way longer!
I bought oval LED tail lights from a trailer shop. I cut the red lense off of them to access the board they were mounted on. I then took thin Lexan plastic (scrap from an RC body) and made a cutout that the bare LEDs mounted to. I did this to give me a tab top and bottom to mount the light and keep the back of the light from shorting out on the inside of the bronco light housing.
