Lizard Skin questions vs. Raptor

Couple of quick questions-

Looking at Raptor liner or Lizard skin on underfloors, bed, firewall, etc.

Goal is to get sound and thermal control, but also to eliminate the need for carpets. I am also trying to get the floor coating color to match the exterior color.

How durable will Lizard skin be with a painted topcoat?

Does Raptor do the same thing as Lizard skin? or is it just a tough coating with no sound or thermal properties?

Thanks in advance.

they R 2 different things as U no....
I like raptor as it is a very low crumb count bed liner - poly paint. Almost like powder coat (I can't do @ home). Its one coat, durable, DYI. Degrease, Scuff, Wipe well or it's off ina wk.
Lizard skin needs a top coat for wear, is less sound proof than dynamat.
Some of us use a modern style heat shield underneath (that alu wafer board or just a alu sheet as pan - offa 1/2 inch junction nuts). Like ur self I'm a no rug guy and raptor'n heat shield wrk. Its a jeep so sound is something I expect. Rust & heat I'd like to avoid tho...

Someone here said they added ceramic beads to Raptor in order to make it more of a heat barrier. But I can tell you from experience that if you don't do something additional to Raptor and intend to run without carpets, you're not going to be happy with the results.
It's probably one of the nicer interior bedliner products, and color tinting it is amazing. I love it, but hate that the Bronco is just so darn noisy and hot inside.
Even in relatively cool outside temps I'm glad I have air-conditioning in my Bronco!

Might depend on your exhaust design and layout too of course, but mine is a single Magnaflow muffler and cat and I should have heat shielding because it kind of bakes you inside the cabin after awhile on a hot day.

Since I'm not likely to Lizard Skin the exterior (going to do it on all three of my other vehicles eventually though) I'm probably going with a full carpet.

Great points Paul. I sprayed Raptor, drove it for a summer and soon realized it needed more. Installed Noico 80 mil, 150 mil and reflective insulation to the passenger area. I don’t have carpet but went with the newer rubber mats front and rear. Now it is comfortable.

I heard any kind of "bedliner" is not good for interior uses, VOC outgassing for years.. Also using that kind of stuff on the engine bay "could" enhance an engine fire, "like a tire fire"
Dynamat and carpet for interior, Paint for engine bays.....

I wouldn't use Raptor as undercoating.

I've had it on my Samurai (interior) for about 2 years and the only issue I have is "impact" chipping. Metal tire iron bouncing around chipped it. Putting in my roll cage damaged it as will.

This tells me that rocks and whatever else flying up will chip it. That said the hood of the Sam as been in Raptor for a year and has no chips.

It did repair easy.....Bought one of those aerosol can and it did OK. Bit of a learning curve with it......

I read the ceramic bead thing too and can't seem to find anything out about it? Als liner sells their product with the optional ceramic beads but I don't believe they sell it separately?

I gave you a website in the other post you inquired about. I used the Hytech ceramic beads in tintable Raptor line on mine and don't have any carpet and also have a 2 into 1 with long tube headers. My floors do not get hot in the summer at all. To Paul's point about sound deadening, it does not help that.

As mentioned two different products. On the firewall and floorboards I used Lizard Skin and sprayed Raptor on top.

The Raptor is a great product,

So I see that ad also, about Raptor being bad in the passenger area. Then I notice that it is a website for Lizard Skin, so I wonder how much of that is actually true. If that is the case, any urethane paint could have a similar off gassing, am I right?

Has anyone done Lizard Skin, then covered it with rubber floor? I am concerned about the thickness of the stuff.

Also, this Bronco might get wet inside, so I didn't want anything that would hold water and stink (like carpet), or trap water and rot the floors. I figured that with either product, the floor would be sealed and not as vulnerable to rust.

I can't say that Raptor does NOT offgas, but mine has never had any type of odor that would lead me to believe that. And I'm a real girlie-man when it comes to breathing stuff that's not meant to be in the lungs. I'd cough up a storm and get a headache within seconds of getting into a vehicle that smelled like poly-anything, or rubber like a floor mat.
It's been very neutral for me.

Maybe it had time to gas off completely while it was open and being worked on?
It was months, rather than years, but still bery possible I would say.
