Starting in '69 (I think) the RAT was used for V8s and the RAN for the 6s. The adapter for the 6s is shorter that the adapter used with the V8s. When you heard to use the RAT adapter instead of RAN, they should have been saying to use the V8 adapter instead of the 6 cylinder one. Pre-'69 used the same RAN trans for both V8s and 6s, but still used the different length adapters for the different engines.

I have seen 3 adapters all different lengths. 6 inches, 8 13/16 & 9 3/8's . Supposedly the 6 cyl is the 6", 8 13/16" is the RAT and 9 3/8's" is the RAN. I am assumming the 8 13/16th" is the one I need. Help?
