I have an original 289 in a 1966. From what I understand there were not that many factory 66's with the 289 but I seem to have one. It has been internally rebuilt and runs really good. My question is, is there a market out there that someone may be looking for a number matching 1966 bronco 289? If so what do you all think the value is for this? Thanks in advance..

I really liked the 289's, just curious why you want to swap it?

From what I understand there were approx 3000 factory 289 broncos made in 66. I'm looking to do a build and I don't want to ruin a rare engine that someone may be looking for to do an original..

289 wasn't offered until 3/66', so yeah not a lot of them compared to the 170s.

I'm pretty sure Ford motors are not really number matching more like year date stamped
So if you had a 289 out of a 66 mustang or a truck it could be stamped the same as yours . I believe it would be like any other 289. I think the parts on the motor might be unique
Nice piece in f history though and it s cool you want to save it

There is no such thing as a numbers matching early Bronco. A 1966 with a v8 compared the a 6 cylinder all things being equal would be worth slightly more (it isn't a K code like in a Mustang that is a huge driver of value). The biggest determination of value is the CONDITION of the Bronco. Post some pictures and go from there....value $500 on up.

Hey all thanks for the expertise! It sounds like all the 289's are the same so no big deal if I tear into this engine to get a little more out of it. Thanks again all.

Don't go to far. Remember, 221, 260 and 289 are thin wall castings. They were used in Tigers, Griffiths, A.C Cobras. Small and sorta light they are. Many folk over the years have bored them to much and couldn't figure out why the engine was over heating.
A little chilly in Julian today..............

Oh yeah we are pretty crisp these days, mid thirties on the back porch. Reminds me that I should get to installing the heater in the Bronc..
