Looking for the ultimate snow tire.

I'm looking for the best off road snow tire, not necessarily for on road snow. Looking for the tire that will perform the best off road in deep snow. Probably a 35" or 36" tire, probably 12.50 width. The Super Swamper LTB in 35-12.50-15 or the TSL SX 36-12.50-15 look pretty good but I've never had either of them. This would not necessarily be my only tires, Hoping to be able to get into our cabin in the mountains at 9,000' when the snow gets bumper deep. It's high altitude but pretty far south so we don't get huge snow. 2' is about the most we ever get with 4-6" being more common. It usually melts off between big storms, so not trying to go through 10' of snow. Thoughts?

Uh, yeah, not quite what I had in mind. Something a little less aggressive. But thanks.

Get any bias ply baloon tire with an at treAd. The swamper sts comes to mind. Air it way down to float on top of the snow. U will be good. The best one use to be the original dick cepek fun country. That is what the icelandic people used for their snow wheeling until they quit making them. You can also search for the icelandic off road stuff. I understand that there is a company making tires just for that application. It is based off the original fun country but has cuts inthe tread like they use to modify them. But u want to get in top of the snow as much as possible. So wider tire the better and aired way down. Hope this helps

My vote is for a 35"-37" BFG AT KO2 (the new style, not the old) I have 37" and was able to push 4.5' (top of the hood) of wet snow until the engine started bogging down. Snow requires lots of siping for good wet traction. I have friends who have a cabin at ~ 9000', and it is difficult getting there with MTs or any other aggressive, big block tread because they tend to dig down instead of propel forward when they hit resistance. ATs are G2G though and all of us that go there in the winter are using ATs or chains.

Another vote for the largest BFG AT you can fit on your rig...
Beadlocks and <5# air pressure.

Hi, I snow plow with the BFG KO all terrain and even with 3 foot drifts I got my plowing done. I was not limited by the tires. Good luck

I have the Goodyear Dura Track, they are good in the snow..best I've used so far. But I've heard after buying them the sidewalls aren't as strong as BFG's...not really sure. When I lived in Mew Mexico I had the BFG's all terrain for Hot Air Ballooning chase vehicle in ABQ, they were good too. Multiple volunteers would drive my truck to get the balloon off road...the tires never flatted even with horrible drivers.

Super Swampers were the worst for deep snow...

Hmmm, This past winter (not in the mountains, down in the desert) we had a big (for here) snow storm, I had somebody go playing in the snow in a jeep and get stuck, I had my Bronco half torn apart, so I took my old truck with pretty bald all terrain type tires to go pull them out. I hit several 3 foot drifts, went right through. Pulled them right out, got right back home. I guess there should be a lesson in that.

The one time I got stuck in the snow; ( We slid backwards after NOT making it up the hill and right into a snow drift bank) The recovery vehicle had balloon ribbed tires!
After paying the bill to get winched out I finally convinced my wife to get a winch of our own.

I had the older KO's on a Ranger that amazed me in deep snow. On a number of occasions I punched that truck through drifts that were over the hood. Sometimes I'd have to rock it back and forth after getting stuck but eventually the tires would pull me through. I think the KO 2's are even more aggressive than the KO's and should be great too. I replaced the tires on my old truck this year with a set of Duratrack's and will get to put them to the test this winter. The AT's that were replaced had the tread blocks closely spaced and kind of sucked in snow and on ice. I would say with KO 2's or Duratrack's and a set of chains you should be good.

I can attest to KO's being awesome - I've got some older Goodyear MT's that hook surprisingly good too.

I had a neighbor running the 36" TSL SX's on his 4-door 4-Runner and they were pretty sketchy in snow and ice. While I love the TSL SX for their tough carcass in the muddy/rocky mixes, I've never liked that particular size. Interco uses their tighter lug spacing pattern on the 36" model, so it's not the same as most of the other (bigger) TSL SX tires. Regardless, something with more siping and flotation would get my pick over the SX's.

Studded snow tires. Nothing better on ice or hard pack snow.
