My fan ate my radiator this weekend. On the way home I met a buggy builder that suggested an electric fan. He said they use them so that right before they hit the water they can throw a switch and turn them off. Said another benefit is that with all the low speed putt-putting on the trail, mechanical fans aren't that efficient. Seems reasonable to me. Any of you deep puddle mariners care to comment?

I'm also looking at these bumpers to carry a spare, the cooler and some water and/or fuel. Would appreciate comments from anyone with personal experience installing/living with any of these;

http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/06.asp $1,059.97

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-15053_prerunner_rear_bumper_w_hitch__tire__can___chest.htm $785.00

http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/product.php?category=12&id=1201 $1037.00

http://www.jamesduff.com/eb/tire_mount.html $1007.00

Price/shipping will be a factor but I'm mainly interested in quality/ease of installation at this point.

Thanks, -R

I have always had good service at Jeff's
and like the bumpers they have, seems to me
this is the best choice. Eric;D

BC broncos seems to have the best radiator options. As far as the electric fan You'll here it both ways on here. If you buy a good one that moves enough air there shouldn't be a problem. I think some guys are running sirocco fans from the junkyard with good results.

That's a good tip, thanks. The guy I was chatting with mentioned that the yards are where they get theirs from and this'll help me focus on a specific model at the u-pull-it.

If you go with an electric fan, consider a good shroud so you pull air through the whole core surface, not just where the fan is strapped to the rad. shrouds are also very important to the efficency of belt driven fans. my .02

Early 90's 3.8L Ford Taurus fans are 2-speed and flow in the 4500 cfm range on high speed. They fit the Bronco fan fairly weel. I believe there is a decent write-up on Pirate 4x4...Search under Taurus fan. The one you are looking for should have 3-wires.

I picked mine up for $75, including the entire shroud ass'y
