Looking for low tone duals for my 302. Don't want to piss off the neighbors. I don't want stock but the next step above. Too old for loud pipes.

if you have long headers and run regular cheap mufflers it will sound good.. I had 40s on there and it was so loud i had to turn it off at the drive through ..

What is your current setup?

Low tone for me would be manifolds, 2" or 2.25" pipe, maybe an H pipe if you can fab it up, and some LONG turbo mufflers.

For reference, here's a video of my old Bronco - running long tube headers, 302, H pipe, 2.5" pipe and summit turbo mufflers. A bit louder than "low tone" but no where near as loud as some of the others I've owned.

A pair of stock replacment mufflers should fit the bill just right. Since you are only pushing half the exhaust through each one, it will breath better. It will be slightly louder then stock because the free breathing exhaust won't have the smothering that a single muffler would.

I think they are long tubes with glass packs....????
Heus33, that sounds good, not loud at all.

Well if you have long tube headers you can do a few things to quiet it down.

1) Reduce the size of the pipe to 2" or 2.25"
2) Pull the glasspacks and put in the longest turbo muffler that you can find. Summit is a good place to search - you can search by inlet/outlet. Heck, you can even leave the glasspacks on if you can fit turbo mufflers in there - the glasspacks will act as resonators.
3) You can go to a super single exhaust (I did this on my blue bronco): 351W, long tubes, 2.5" pipe, 2 into 1 with a walker quietflow muffler (made for full size chevys).

I loved this setup - it was even quieter than the red bronco - it sounded like the exhaust on a modern pickup.

I just put dual Flowmaster super 40s on mine and I love the sound, I've heard the regular 40s before and they were too obnoxious for me. These are so damn quite when at idle its ridiculous. But when you give it gas, it comes to life. But in a deep tone. I also have headers if that makes a difference for you.

You can have the best of both. Quiet, no drone cruising and A nice dual crackle when you punch it. 2.25" Duals, Magnaflows, and a cross-over pipe right ahead of the mufflers. Quiet till you need it.

Ended up going with Flowmaster 40's. They guy at the shop went the extra mile by letting me get in my truck on the lift. He tried the MagnaFlow, Flowmaster and what he called a turbo. The Flowmasters was the best sound. Ran pipes (2-1/4") out the back under the bumper. Sound good at idle. The motor sound as if it has a cam. Sounds pretty bad a$$. He clamped the muffler to some nipples that he welded to the pipes. He said in case I get tired of the sound it would be easy to change. Thanks guys for all the help.
