I have an LS3 that is going in my 57 Nomad. Great motor all aluminum block and 6 bolt mains. When I decode the numbers on the block it comes up as an LS9, so LS3 Corvette motors and LS9 have the same block.

Awesome! Love the Nomads and that's exactly where I'd put an LS engine! ;D

I'll take a close look tomorrow. My change oil notification just came on about 1200 miles ago (after starting a long trip) and I've been meaning to get to it. Might be a good time to see about replacing the fuel and trans filters too.

Still at the top of the hash marks 1200 miles past oil change due.

If I can find a good donor vehicle with an LS motor and a 4L60 in it, I'm all for it. Anything specific vehicle I should be looking for?

2002 Trans AM/Z28's had the LS6 intake. Not a huge difference, not really even enough to worry about.

Find a wrecked 1998-2002 F-Body and start pulling..

I owned a 2001 Firehawk about 7 years ago with an LS1/T56 combo... I miss that car on a daily basis.

I found 2 good motor & transmission set-ups that's are somewhat close to me. They're both 5.3L V8s out of Silverado pickups. Complete with all the wiring. 1 is out of a 2wd pickup and the other is out of a 4wd pickup. Which one would be better to buy, 2wd or 4wd? I'm walking into something I've never done before so I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions as well.

If mileage and condition are equal get the 4x4 it building a 4x4 it will save some dollars as there are a lot of tcase options that bolt up

It's just a $250 price difference. It comes complete with the ECM and all the wiring needed. Will I still need a stand alone wiring harness from Painless or can the stock harness be modified?

The harness can be reworked but is not for the faint of heart. You'll need to be proficient at reading wiring schematics and drawings for the exact vehicle will need to be obtained. The ECM will also need to be reworked with EFI Live or something equal.

So, trailblazer manifolds clear the frame? Would trailblazer headers I wonder?
Will factory truck intake clear the hood or does it need a car intake?
What about accesories, and clearance issues with the truck stuff or need car accesories?

It's a great budget swap if you can use factory truck stuff, if you need to find car parts to make it all fit it easily triples the cost if not more and becomes less attractive ;)

That would be a corvette/CTS accessory set up. Same one I use it's the shortest option but uses a specific alternator that doesn't fit anything else

Accessors are 2001 corvette with a 2005 corvette water pump. It's 2 inches shorter. I used sanderson block huger headers. Advanced adapters universal motor mounts. Cmb motors wiring harness. Everything else was custom made.
