Mean green starter tone

Just installed the mean green starter from WH and a bit surprised by the tone. Seems non-mechanical and mushy. Spins the motor well, just sounds odd. Anybody else running the mean green and experiencing a similar tone?

I can't for sure compare "non-mechanical and mushy" to my experiences with them (all on other's rigs) but it's not a bad description! I do kind of like the difference between them and the standard and PMGR starters though.
But I like PMGR starters over the original sound as well.

Not sure if you'll need to post up a video/sound clip or not, but your experience with them sounding "different" from others is certainly normal.

Thanks Paul, I was hoping to hear your response. I was hoping to hear that the tone is indeed different than standard. Love that I could clock this starter and get the solenoid away from heat sources. Dealt with hot start issues for decades.......not sure what took me so long to change.

Yeah, that's a cool feature for sure. The last one I installed was on a race block 351 (maybe a Ford Racing part?) with custom big tube headers. Talk about tight space!
But it was easy with the Mean Green.
